Gurus Echosex 2 Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Gurus Echosex 2° impresses with its authentic Echorec tones and stylish Italian design, making it a standout in the delay pedal market. Its ability to evoke vintage sounds with modern reliability is commendable, and it shines as both a studio tool and a live performance asset. However, its omission of the original Echorec's multi-head effects is a notable drawback, especially at its price point. Despite this, the Echosex 2° remains a beautifully crafted piece of gear, offering unique tonal capabilities that might justify its premium cost for serious delay enthusiasts.

Gurus Amps Echosex 2

soundonsound.com

The Gurus Echosex 2° triumphs in capturing the vintage magic of the Echorec with its warm preamp and murky delays, offering a rich tonal character that enhances the guitar sound. While it doubles the original's maximum delay time to 660ms, the lack of a tap-tempo feature is a noticeable omission. Built robustly with thoughtful controls, the pedal's charm is slightly marred by the absence of a suitable power supply, potentially affecting sound quality. Overall, it excels in recreating the nostalgic warmth and character of the original, making it a solid choice for those seeking that iconic sound.

“There’s this delay pedal called the Echosex…” he continues, cringing. “Awful, AWFUL name. It’s so bad that I actually had to put a bit of gaffa tape over the ‘sex’ bit so it just says ‘Echo 2’, it just pissed me off so much, but it’s an amazing replica of a Binson drum thing. And Space Echoes are invaluable to us,” he adds. “I know they’re getting quite expensive now, but if anyone should buy one thing, it’s that. Actually the Echosex thing – god I hate that I have to keep saying it – is actually pretty fucking close to the Space Echo. It’s got a knob on that does tape warp, and it’s a very warm analogue sound.”
