This article clearly states that John used a Hofner Senator, mainly for songwriting purposes:
"Lennon bought the guitar from Hessy's Music Store in Liverpool. It is thought that he kept it for songwriting purposes."
In the 1966 film "Blow Up", guitarist Jeff Beck is seen performing with The Yardbirds in a club. During the performance, Beck plays a Höfner Senator Thinline, which he subsequently smashes due to technical difficulties with the amplifier, before tossing the neck into the crowd and switching to his Les Paul. This scene is documented in the YouTube video titled "Yardbirds - Jimmy Page & Jeff Beck, Blow Up movie, 1966" by Rock N Roll.

In this video of Kasabian covering Iggy Azalea's song Fancy in the Radio 1 Live Lounge, Sergio Pizzorno can be seen playing a Hofner guitar, which most closely matches the Senator model. While the tailpiece differs a bit, Senators do indeed exist with the same tailpiece as the one Pizzorno is using. Pizzorno's Senator guitar also has a reddish pearl pickguard. The markings on the neck and headstock as well as the shape of the body and the f-holes are consistent with the Senator model. At 3:14 in the video, a good look at the entire guitar can be had.
"QRD – What was your first guitar & what happened to it?
Fred – Hofner Senator, 1963. Charles Fletcher took the neck & made it a part of the double neck guitar he constructed for me in 1974."
Marty Willson-Piper uses a Höfner Senator guitar, as detailed on his official gear page.
One of the guitars Lee owns is a hofner senator. Lee bought this guitar second hand in the 90s after it came into andertons. He bought this guitar for about 150 pounds. He got it for so cheap because, at the time no one thought they would be so collectible.
Jack uses a Hofner Senator and his hip flask to achieve his sound, something that has been described as "The most badass slide guitar you've ever seen".
In this rare early picture of Rick Westwood, he is seen testing out a 50s Hofner Senator. The suggestion that it is a 50s Senator is with its control panel, which is designed in a circular plate, as opposed to the 60s, in-line control panel plate. This Hofner Senator may just be one of Rick's early guitars, which he would then either sell or trade for better instruments, such as the Hofner Club 40, and the Fender Stratocaster.
