Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Keeley Super Mod Workstation.

Features and functionality

  • The pedal can run two algorithms simultaneously, offering unique sound combinations like phaser with vibrato or two harmonic tremolos at different rates.

    Source
  • Offers additional algorithms like Reverb hall/plate and Delay analog/digital, with the analog delay outperforming the Boss DD-8.

    Source
  • It functions in dual mono or wet/dry, not stereo, but using a bubbler chorus can effectively widen the stereo image.

    Source
  • The top-mounted jacks can complicate pedalboard placement, often requiring rearrangement, and may lead to placing the pedal last in the effects chain.

    Source
  • The pedal can only run two effects simultaneously, with dedicated bypass switches for each, limiting its use in complex setups.

    Source
  • The interface lists effects and parameters on the pedal's edge, making mid-set tweaks challenging.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Ideal for studio use on guitar, bass, and keys, it excels in creating dynamic modulations for TV, film, and commercials.

    Source
  • The rotary setting with vibrato adds fuzzy harmonics to synth pads, acting like a cool overdrive on clean synth sounds.

    Source
  • The detune and tremolo settings, when combined, have been used successfully to replicate the fuzz tone on "Only Tomorrow" by My Bloody Valentine.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Preferred over Strymon Mobius and Boss MD-500 for its lack of complex menus, making it more user-friendly for those who dislike menu-diving.

    Source
  • The chorus effect is often described as underwhelming, especially when paired with distortion, leading some users to favor external chorus units like the Boss CH-1.

    Source

User experience

  • The TAP button may be temperamental, with an external tap recommended for better performance.

    Source
  • Users report that the flanger effect is among the best they've heard, highlighting its exceptional quality compared to other effects on the pedal.

    Source
  • A user noted the pedal's reliable performance after extensive use, highlighting its durability for constant travel.

    Source

Build quality

  • The pedal is built solidly, with jacks and switches designed to withstand heavy stomping during gigs.

Review : Keeley Super Mod Workstation — That Guitar Lover

thatguitarlover.com

The Keeley Super Mod Workstation impresses with its versatility, packing multiple high-quality effects into a compact unit. It's a dream for musicians looking to streamline their gear without compromising on sound quality. Each effect, from delays to modulation, is well-crafted, making it a solid choice for those whose needs align with its offerings. However, the pedal's complexity can be daunting, with small, hard-to-read controls and a reliance on a function card that users must keep handy. Despite these challenges, the pedal's rich feature set and sound quality make it a valuable addition to a guitarist's setup.

KEELEY Super Mod Workstation Pedal - Mixdown Magazine

mixdownmag.com.au

The Keeley Super Mod Workstation packs a wide variety of modulation effects into a compact, pedalboard-friendly design, perfect for those who want versatility without sacrificing sound quality. It offers an impressive range of effects, from phasers and chorus to delays and reverbs, with the ability to combine effects for unique soundscapes. While it might initially overwhelm due to its multitude of options, the pedal's strength lies in its subtlety and adaptability, making it ideal for both live gigs and home use. However, it doesn’t revolutionize the multi-effects concept, but excels in execution, making it a solid choice for those looking to simplify their setup with a single, high-quality unit.

Strong candidate for Desert Island Pedal

Pros: Small enclosure, a nice plethora of the classic modulation effects, two chanels in series close enough to step in them at the same time, the unexpected quality and really usefull delays and reverbs in a mod pedal, the tap tempo and expression output.
Cons: Some of the mod effects repeat in both channels but they are placed in different positions. Parameters vary a lot from each fx (really hard to memorize), personaly I feel that some of them were unnecesary to repeat (they don't repeat "flanger" or "chorus" but they do with "harmonic tremolo"). The small distance between switches can also be a Con in a live situation, if you want, for instance, to step on the middle switch without touching the others. There are no presets, and that's ok for the price, but once unplugged and turned on, V1 does not memorize the tap tempo either so make sure to get V2.
All in all, a great sounding pedal with a lot of versatility and combinations in both channels with a substantial learning curve.
