Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about M-Audio M-Track Hub.

Features and functionality

  • The M-Audio M-Track Hub uses 16-bit encoders, despite settings suggesting 24-bit, requiring careful level management to avoid digital noise issues.

    Source
  • The M-Track Solo's gain dial includes a -10dB pad/attenuation feature, but lacks a zero gain notch, making precise level adjustments challenging.

    Source

Comparisons

  • M-Audio M-Track Hub is less expensive than most 24-bit interfaces, such as Focusrite Scarlett Solo and Universal Audio Volt, which start around $100.

    Source
  • The FiiO K3 is suggested as a budget-friendly alternative to the M-Audio M-Track Duo for better driving power with high-impedance headphones like the HD6XX.

    Source
  • Some users find Behringer interfaces, like the UMC1820, superior to M-Audio for lower latency and better preamps within the same price range.

    Source

User experience

  • Some users reported issues with voice playback slowing down, potentially due to sample rate mismatches between 44.1k and 48kHz, often resolved with newer interfaces.

    Source
  • Owners report disappointment with the M-Track series due to latency issues and poor preamp quality, impacting recording sessions.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • The M-Audio M-Track Duo might run HD6XX headphones at a decent level despite their 300 Ohm impedance, though a dedicated amp is recommended for optimal performance.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The M-Audio M-Track Duo can serve as a beginner DAC, but for future-proofing, a dedicated amp could enhance headphone performance with higher-end models.

    Source
  • It's suggested that the M-Track Solo might not handle medium-sized DAW sessions well, potentially limiting its use for more complex projects.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • Users recommend ensuring the use of M-Audio's provided driver for optimal performance and to address potential latency and buffer size issues.

The M-Audio M-Track Hub is a compact, budget-friendly USB monitoring interface that excels in convenience with three powered USB ports and dedicated headphone output. Perfect for electronic musicians needing extra ports, it’s easy to set up and fits in a fanny pack. However, its reliance on a wall wart for power and lack of audio input and LED indicators might deter users seeking more features. A practical choice for those prioritizing simplicity over versatility.

shimron

A good value, solid ASIO audio interface for VSTi control.

Extremely simple to set up. Extremely low latency. Before I got this I was using my Roland JD-XA's built-in ASIO audio interface, which has a latency at default buffer size (256 samples) of 28.1 ms. The M-Track Hub's latency, set to the same buffer size (256 samples), is an incredible 17.5 ms, making output from MIDI-controlled VSTis virtually instantaneous. The metal chassis gives the unit a reassuring weight, and while the headphone socket's maximum output is low, as has been pointed out in other reviews, it is adequate to plug into a mixer if you don't have a stereo splitter. Being a powered USB hub, it also tidies up cables, frees up ports and gives you full control over MIDI keyboard allocation, allowing complete flexibility.
