A great KT66-driven Marshall providing some serious classic rock tones!

I bought this amp about eight years ago and since then I have been able to place it into various styles of music. The independent EQ control of the preamp is probably the greatest feature as it gives you the tools to shape the tone drastically (in a good way!). In my opinion Greenbacks are an absolute must as loudspeakers, I had less good experiences with other speaker types like Celestion's V30s and G12T-75s. The only weak point I know of is the digital reverb which sounds a bit lifeless (fortunatly can be disabled completely). I can imagine that these amps could really increase in price. Regarding the sound this quote should help:

"The Vintage Modern is basically a JTM 45 with some hot rodding. For a JTM 45 tone select the low dynamic range, master volume on full, mid boost out, Detail at 2 -4 o'clock, Body at 1 - 3 o'clock and then dime the tones. This should be very close.

The Vintage Modern is essentially a Plexi with some bells and whistles. Its foundation is the 'JTM 45 Super 100's' as championed by Hendrix, Clapton in Cream and several others." -Steve Dawson, Amp-Designer

All around amazing amp.

The Marshall Vintage Modern 2266 nails vintage plexi style tones with it's KT66 power tubes. Then switch to the modern channel and it gets plain nasty. Bar none, I believe it is one of the best Marshall amps produced. I wouldn't consider it great for metal or the cleanest of cleans, but just about everything else can be easily achieved. Classic Marshall crunch!

Les Paul + Marshall still = Perfection

This amp is now getting very close to being 10 years old and has been beaten as a road dog. I love what this 50w amp gives me and with a recent service & now loaded with 'EHX Gold Lion' KT66's this thing is sounding better than ever.

The 2266 can be seen multiple times (e.g. at 13:19) in the Live at Ronnie Scott's recordings. As stated bei Steve Dawson of Marshall he later switched to a 2466 model.

"He had the 50W 2266 and did use it but he found he needed a little more power because it's actually 35W clean. It was too late to get a 2466 to him (75W clean) which would probably have been perfect. He's using the 45/100 these days which is a parent of the 2466." - Steve Dawson
