A stripped-back controller done right: the GXP88 wins praise for solid, reliable DAW integration, classy aftertouch for the money, useful pedal and MIDI connectivity, and smart extras like the Repeat Engine and Nektarine support. Sound On Sound liked that it’s “rock solid,” well documented, and focused on practical workflow instead of gimmicky pads and faders. The catches? The keybed isn’t luxurious — it’s a bit noisy, with some rough finishing — and the old-school programming method offers little feedback. Nektarine also adds power at the cost of some head-scratching, with an interface that isn’t always intuitive. Still, for players who want an affordable, no-nonsense 88-key controller that plays nicely with a DAW and doesn’t overpromise, this lands as a quietly capable long-term buy.
