Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Nektar Impact GX61.

Features and functionality

  • The GX61 includes additional buttons compared to the SE61, providing more MIDI control options for users who need them.

    Source
  • The GX61 lacks backlit pads and assignable sliders, which are features offered by more expensive alternatives like the Arturia KeyLab Essential mk3.

    Source
  • It's been pointed out that the GXP61's "semi-weighted" keys are essentially unweighted with a stiffer spring, which might not suit all players who desire true weighted action.

    Source

Build quality

  • Some users find the keys on the GX61 to be too plasticky and sharp, although this may be a subjective experience.

    Source
  • The GX61 is criticized for having short keys that can hinder expressiveness, especially during complex chord voicings involving black keys.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Both the GX61 and SE61 have similar key feel, suggesting that differences between them are more about features than key quality.

    Source
  • The Keystation 61 is noted as a competitive alternative due to its semi-weighted keys, which some users prefer over the feel of the GX61.

    Source
  • Arturia KeyLab Essential mk3, although more expensive, is highlighted for its backlit pads and DAW control capabilities, making it a popular choice among DAW users.

    Source
  • The Roland GO:Keys offers minimal controls, but users appreciate its non-weighted keys, which feel good compared to other budget options like the GX61.

    Source
  • The Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol A61 is noted for having a high-quality keyboard and minimal controls, providing a viable alternative to the GX61 for those seeking simplicity.

    Source
  • The M-Audio Keystation 61 Mk3 is praised for a keybed similar to the Fatar TP100LR, providing satisfactory performance for piano parts despite slightly short keys.

    Source

User experience

  • One user experienced inconsistent velocity response, suggesting potential variability in the key sensitivity of the GX61.

    Source
  • Owners of the GXP61 note its keybed feels like a lighter version of the Alesis QS8.1, offering aftertouch—a feature appreciated by many on a cheaper controller.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • The Nektar Impact GX61 is considered a solid budget option at approximately $130, appealing for those with limited budgets.

    Source

Simple and perfect

It's a MIDI keyboard with a lot of keys. Very simple and hits every note: the keys have great touch, nice weight and velocity sensibility, pretty self-explanatory and simple functions and greatly constructed, useful for whatever you want it, whether studio work or live performances. I've used it in both and have nothing but praise for it.
