Very functional for DJs
The HDJ-1500 are good DJ headphones. Their strength is in good isolation in loud environment. They are comfortable and you can move them easy on and off your ears. They are not super true sounding. Instead, they are heavier on the bass, which I prefer in a DJ session. I read multiple times, and several DJ friends also confirmed, that the hinges tend to break. I believe it. Yeah, my V-Moda M80s feel all around more solid, but they don't have hinges, either. The cushions of the HDJ-1500 can be replaced. You find them on Ebay. The cord is soft and coiled. It has a smaller connection to the cans than the Beats Studio. So be aware of this, when ordering a replacement cord. The screw-on 3.5mm to 1/4" Adaptor is not the best quality. One little ring fell out of it, just after a few weeks. Not a big deal, though. [Update:] The rubber coating of the cans turned into a sticky mess. I removed it with rubbing alcohol or Goo-be-gone. (I don't remember, which one I used in this case.) Now the cans have a cheap look. This made the rating drop from 4 to 3 stars.
Bottom line: The HDJ-1500 are very functional (five stars) and sound good (four stars). I would give them four and a half stars, if I would not be so concerned about their durability. This drags it down to four stars.
My preferred headphones, for DJing. In white, of course, to match my controller :P

loud with high quality
This model is great for Doing at some really loud parties. The only reason that this headphones are my second favorite for Doing is because they are too heavy.
From what i could read, Pioneer HDJ-1500 could be good Headphones to start mixing.

great headphones
good headphones but lack comfort that they should have they fold up nicely and have a jack adapter thatt fits most mixers.

surprising, I like them.
I use them as my daily drivers. Pretty comfy, sounds pretty decent. I got 2 of them.
Edit for more detail:
I never really hear about these headphones from anyone or any countdown list, but i saw the design and thought they looked pretty sleek and attractive. They aren't too pricey, so lets test them out. I was taken by surprise the dynamic of the sound. All your ranges were there. I didnt need to carry an amp everywhere with me for these (most of my headphones are high impedance), so i use these with my phone and at work (they let me listen to music there).
I dont DJ, so i don't know how they work in that environment. I would assume you want something lightweight, versitile, durable, and somewhat compact and portable. I would say they pass on all those aspects.
Comfortablility: I can wear them all day at my 9-5 job. I only pull them off just to hear what my boss has to say. The pads are like soft little pillows. I dare say they have the softness of large ample breast with the precision and finesse of smaller perkier ones. The band doesn't clamp on your head like vicegrips or the jaw of an alligator, so even as on-ear cups, they dont hurt after a while. But Ill be honest with one thing though. I have 2 pairs of these, one white and one black. The white ones i had felt much more softer around my ears. The black ones i had were much harder. But after about 2 week break in period they were better. I can say from first hand experience that the quality control on the cushion of these headphones are noticeable.
Overall I enjoy these underrated headphones. They look really sleek and offer a dynamic sound. Fair warning though: If you get them in white, things will start to turn yellow.

I have black one.

Description
Professional DJ headphones with full-range sound reproduction and improved sound isolation.
Pioneer DJ equipment is carefully crated with the professional DJ in mind, and the HDJ-1500 headphones fall right into place. These pro-DJ headphones promise to deliver full-range, incredible sound reproduction in a stylish cosmetic design that is perfect for pro DJs. Providing unmatched audio performance, the HDJ-1500 utilizes high-quality components, large drivers, high-quality construction and a new sound isolation technology to achieve exceptional performance in demanding environments.
It's in the Sound
The high-quality components incorporated into the HDJ-1500 headphones deliver evenly balanced sound across the entire frequency spectrum. The combination of large 50mm drivers, copper-clad aluminum wire (CCAW) voice coils, rare-earth magnets and 38μm-thick diaphragms, significantly improve control of the drivers and produce better bass response. Users will hear pronounced vocals, hard-hitting kick drums and snappy snare drums that make matching tempos between tracks effortless.
The newly developed design also greatly reduces background noise. Pioneer has created an innovative sound-isolation chamber as part of its bass reflex port that isolates low and mid frequencies in the 300 Hz to 1,300 Hz by as much as 4 decibels from the previous Pioneer model, resulting in cleaner, better defined mid bass/mid range sounds.
Defined by Design
The HDJ-1500 exemplifies the look and feel of pro-style headphones designed with large over-the-ears cups that not only look sleek but also contribute to their excellent performance. The model incorporates ultra-comfortable narrow low-resilience urethane memory foam ear pads to create a tight seal around the ears and significantly reduce external sounds. The urethane memory pads are also finished in durable leather for great feel and extended comfort. The HDJ-1500 features a moving headband and hinges composed of rugged yet lightweight magnesium alloy to withstand the rigors of extended professional use. Each earpiece swivels up to 45-degrees and can be flipped around 180-degrees for one ear listening. Furthermore, the included single-sided cable is detachable and can easily be replaced if damaged. The headphones also include a compact carrying pouch for protection and convenience.

I have the white ones. I used to always get black of everything - but recently decided it was time for a change. So more and more of my gear is turning white these days.
