Critic Reviews

PreSonus Studio One Review | PCMag

pcmag.com

PreSonus Studio One redefines the digital audio workstation experience with its intuitive workflow and powerful composition tools. While it excels in speed and usability, allowing for seamless recording and mixing, the software suffers from an outdated selection of instruments and a cluttered interface that can overwhelm users. Despite these drawbacks, its impressive features like integrated pitch correction and support for Dolby Atmos make it a strong contender in the DAW market. Overall, it’s a smart choice for musicians seeking a capable alternative to Pro Tools, though some may be wary of its shifting subscription model.

Favorite DAW out of Logic and FL for sure.

At first, I started off with Logic 9 because that's what a few of my friends were using at the time, and that's what they used to teach me the basics of producing music. However, later on, I ended up coming across this producer on YouTube (Superstar O) and the DAW he was using was Studio One 3. I thought it looked so cool compared to Logic 9 and what made it even cooler was that it had a demo version of it, something that a lot of other DAWs don't have. I gave it a try and I immediately fell in love. The work flow and just the way it looked was really awesome. The plugins it comes with are great, and I've been using it nonstop for over a year now. I'm not sure what music genre it's best for, but I make r&b, hip hop, and indie music/beats and record vocals very often, and it's a really comfortable program to use and has definitely gotten the job done well.

Awesome sauce!

Coming from logic X this daw is pretty awesome, I opened it up and figured out a few things and I was on my way to recording a brand new song idea. It's ease of use is it's biggest selling point. If you're just starting to learn recording (or you're a seasoned vet) this would be the daw i recommend!

exactly what my workflow needed

I've spent the better part of the past 6 months bouncing files from Ableton to S1 Pro, mostly because I was so stuck with how easy and quick it was to create a a track from start to finish. 2 days ago everything clicked and I'm almost positive I'll never need to dip into another DAW again. It really does take the best parts from Ableton and Cubase and creates a powerhouse DAW with everything I'll ever need. I hope this somewhat shallow review of mine helps out some of you.

Cheers!

Protools user, I decided to switch to Studio one. Studio one 5 is an intuitive daw that will never cut you off in your inspiration

@chokaprod, Glad to hear you're liking it. I think the folks @ Presonus have done a commendable job bringing Studio One to its current position of respectability in such a (relatively) short timespan. Bringing a new DAW to market has got to be daunting when most of your competition has been on the market for 20 to 30 years. Cheers to the folks in Baton Rogue, LA for succeeding in their crazy recent endeavors. :)

People who are behind Studio one, know perfectly the needs of musicians, many sound engineers also turn to Studio one

Meaty Content + Easy Workflow

Hands down my favorite DAW. Very easy to pick up and very hard to put down, Studio One 3 is now my go to. The quality samples it comes with are phenomenal, and the effects (in the Professional edition) are also meaty and packed. I feel as though I've only scratched the surface, but this is one brilliant piece of software. Great for both Dance Music and 'Normal' music!

Great tool

It's getting better and better. I can say this DAW is a timesaver. It can be used in world of electronic music and live music. What a great combo. Also I see that I don't need to click my mouse often to find buttons, points, etc.

Workflow, Features, Professional Quality, Drag/Drop, my new standard

Studio One is relatively new, but designed by some guys that have been around. The creators of Cubase and Nuendo designed Studio One. It is intuitive, easy to figure out, fantastic workflow, true drag and drop. Supports all 3rd party software I have used, not buggy at all, sounds great, I could go on and on. Pro Tools who??

Upgragded to Pro version

Compared to Ableton and FL Studio demos I tried, I found Studio One 4 to work better for me. I upgraded to the Pro version using Splice rent-to-own so I can take advantage of the additional features. Recommend this to any serious hobbyist (like me) or beginner.

The best version yet

Studio One has come a long way, and after 10 years it has become a powerful full featured DAW with version 5. Everything you need to produce music is in the lean, bloat-free package.

chokaprod

The best DAW to work with ... just a few crashes on my end related to compatibility with a few plugins ... But I don't despair this problem is fixed. And I won't go back to any other DAW ... I love Studio one

elyot

I actually use 4.5 Professional (they need to update the list I guess)

I will take the bounced stereo track or individual tracks for further mixing. I'll master in the project page. It sounds awesome! As I used to use ProTools (but not anymore), Studio One was easy to switch to as it has the same layout

I’m Using Studio One Professional for the entire process of creating music. Starting with composing, sound design, going over to recording, editing, mixing and also mastering, I simply do everything in Studio One. I do have three workspaces so I can work from everywhere. Most of the times I’m in my main studio in Bochum, Germany to write and produce songs for my project ATB."

2 alternative and related items for PreSonus Studio One, curated by the Equipboard community.

Steinberg Cubase

$209.00 - $329.99

high-end alternative

Studio One was first written by Wolfgang Kundrus (an early developer for Cubase & the primary author/developer of Nuendo) & Matthias Juwan (the guy who wrote the VST3 spec) as part of KristalLabs Software Ltd (the "K" logo for Studio One is a tribute to them). PreSonus later bought them out & started releasing their product as Studio One.

Thus, Studio One & Cubase have a lot in common (e.g. shortcuts, UI/UX elements, etc)
