Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Visual Sound V2 Series H2O.

Features and functionality

  • The Chorus side replicates the Small Clone sound, delivering a spot-on tone that stands out.

    Source
  • The Echo's "Short" toggle is praised for its effective slapback, while the "Long" toggle may need fine-tuning for straight timing instead of triplets.

    Source
  • The short delay mode is capable of achieving almost 0ms delay, enhancing slapback effects, while the lush mode on the chorus lacks a depth control for customization.

    Source
  • The pedal offers a slow flange, standard chorus, and a "shimmer" effect, in addition to a leslie-type effect.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The pedal is versatile enough to create a Shoegaze sound when paired with a Jekyll & Hyde pedal.

    Source
  • The Chorus effect is not only for guitars but also enhances vocals and brass to sound like a Hammond organ.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Despite its bulky design, the pedal is valued for its unique sound, akin to a Hammond organ, which is neither typical nor found in other pedals.

    Source
  • The V1 version features a NOS-BBD chipset for chorus, discontinued in V2, which may appeal to collectors seeking vintage sound characteristics.

    Source

Build quality

  • The pedal has a robust build, withstanding 18 years of heavy use, demonstrating its durability despite occasional maintenance.

    Source
  • The pedal is taller than the Jekyll & Hyde and has two outputs (one wet, one dry), with some users finding the vertical output placement less aesthetic.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • The delay side's reliability can vary; one user experienced a breakdown due to the normal/long delay switch, suggesting potential maintenance needs for used units.

    Source

User experience

  • Some users find the delay options limited; a past user preferred a 300-400ms delay for its ability to blend seamlessly across various playing styles and settings.

    Source
  • Owners appreciate the chorus's ability to produce a lush, creamy sound, often described as superior to the delay function.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • A second-hand purchase at around $60-$70 can offer satisfactory value, despite potential issues with the delay functionality.

    Source
  • The V1 model was particularly sought after during its release, with original pricing around $150-$160, now considered a collector's item.

Visual Sound H2O V2 Review | Guitar Jar

guitarjar.co.uk

The Visual Sound H2O V2 offers robust build quality and a unique blend of Echo and Chorus effects, making it versatile for delay enthusiasts. However, its bulky design can be cumbersome for pedalboard integration. While the analog echo adds warmth, the Chorus effect can easily overwhelm if not used sparingly. Ideal for those who prefer analog delay but might not suit all chorus fans. Overall, a solid choice with some practical limitations.

"I use the Mesa Triple Rectifier and have a couple of heads, and I run the guitar through a couple of pedals, but the distortion I use is mainly the distortion running through the head of the cabs. I have a Zakk Wylde Wah pedal, an H2O Chorus pedal, a Boss Digital Delay, a noise gate and that’s about it for now. I might put in a flanger pedal for this tour, but I haven’t decided yet what the final pedal configuration will be for the tour." Shaun Morgan interview with Reverb.com Nov 10, 2014. The H20 pedal can be seen in the video at 26:32.

Visual Sound V3 H2O

The successor version: https://truetone.com/v3-h2o/

As we reimagined the V3 version of our H2O pedal, it became important for us to try to manifest in this pedal, at least some concept of the rudimentary aspects of this amazing elixir that surrounds us and is an integral element of everyone’s bathroom and kitchen. Our hope was to attempt to capture the ebb and flow, the rhythms, the echoes and subtle nuance that make up the sonic composition of how our ears perceive liquid moving in the natural world around us and then apply it to an electric guitar signal (or acoustic guitar, or bass, or keyboard, or whatever inspires you).

This new pedalboard-friendly, V3 version, still delivers all of the classic H2O sounds you may already love, but it also reaches further into Davy Jones’ Locker than ever before. We’ve now added controls to not only swim between analog Chorus or Vibrato, but we’ve also added a “Tone” control and even a “Detune” switch to take you deep into watery depths that you’ve always wanted to reach (but were afraid to ask Mom & Dad about). When you dive fully into the Speed, Width and Depth knobs you’ll be able feel your signal swirl around you in a Leslie-esque eddy, or you can reduce them to find more subdued currents reminiscent of a lazy river that’s gently flowing to a relaxed and blissful tonal destination (Ah-h-h-h-h!). The hybrid-analog Echo we’ve incorporated into this version also has a broad range of delayed colors that should satisfy any musician’s pedantic palette. It can transport you from the short, slap-back echoes of that annoying dripping faucet in your bathroom (That your roommate refuses to take responsibility for, Ugh!), to the long mesmerizing depths of tidal waves and textured shimmers. It can encompass your tone with a warm, deep delay or ferry you on to controlled, eternal oscillations that will turn your mind into a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought, cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives (Thank you, Harvey Korman).
