Description

Introducing the Walrus Audio Iron Horse V3, a bold, punchy distortion pedal designed for musicians who crave versatility and power. This high-gain behemoth is a fresh take on a classic distortion circuit, delivering thick, riffy, and rowdy sounds that can be finely tuned to your exact preferences. Whether you're looking to create clear, overdriven sounds or unleash a full-on distorted onslaught, the Iron Horse V3 has got you covered.

The magic lies in the Si/LED (Silicon/LED) knob, offering a wide range of distortions. Plus, the pedal has been revamped for a more user-friendly experience. The top-mounted jacks and soft relay true bypass on/off ensure seamless integration into your existing setup.

For those familiar with the previous versions of the Iron Horse, the hard clipping toggle has been reimagined as a blend style potentiometer. This feature allows you to blend between symmetrical silicon and diode clipping for a unique variety of tones. The silicon clipping diodes deliver a high amount of compression when the knob is set to the left, while rotating the knob to the right brings in LED clipping with a smaller amount of compression. Setting the knob at noon blends the two for more complex clipping sounds.

Key Features:

  • High-gain distortion pedal with a wide range of sounds
  • Si/LED knob for finely tuning your distortion
  • Top-mounted jacks for easy integration
  • Soft relay true bypass on/off for seamless operation
  • Blend style potentiometer for blending between symmetrical silicon and diode clipping
  • Silicon and LED clipping diodes for a variety of compression levels
  • Artwork by David Huttner for a unique aesthetic touch.

Walrus Audio Iron Horse V3 review: Rat-like tones with more transparency

guitar.com

The Walrus Audio Iron Horse V3 is a potent distortion pedal that takes inspiration from the iconic ProCo Rat while adding its own flair. Its new blend knob offers a creative twist on clipping options, allowing for a smooth transition between sounds. Musicians will appreciate the pedal's refined tone, which maintains the classic crunch while offering a more transparent character. However, the LED clipping can overpower the silicon side, making it tricky to find a balanced mix. While it excels in delivering a range of gritty tones, the design could benefit from a more intuitive control layout. Ultimately, for those seeking Rat-like versatility with a dash of uniqueness, the Iron Horse V3 is a worthy contender.

Walrus Audio Iron Horse V3 review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

With its versatile silicon/LED clipping blend and impressive gain range, the Walrus Audio Iron Horse V3 stands out in the crowded field of Rat-inspired pedals. Its ability to deliver classic tones alongside a more feral distortion makes it a worthy contender. However, while its build quality and top-mounted jacks are commendable, the sheer volume of similar pedals on the market may leave some players wanting for originality. Overall, the Iron Horse V3 is a solid choice for those seeking diverse distortion options, but it may not revolutionize your sound.
