Best Amp I Have Ever Played

I recently acquired this 1961 "Brownface" Fender Concert, and it has quickly become my dream amp. Definite desert island, heirloom piece of gear. If you're not familiar, the "Brownface" era amps were a definite transition period for Fender. They were only made from 1959-1963. They came after the Tweed era, and eventually became the Blackface amps we know so well. They were characterized by their brown tolex, wheat grill cloth. They also came with one of the most sought-after, gorgeous effects - the famous Brownface Harmonic Tremolo circuit. Some had Reverb, but the Tremolo amps are where it's at. Sonically, they resemble the earlier Tweed amps in terms of their response and mid range, but with the reverb and tremolo sounds that would later be associated with Blackface amps. Sort of the best of both worlds. They are a rock, country, blues player's dream. The Concert was the larger 40 Watts, 4x10" model. 6L6's and 12AX7's.

they're very much blackface AND tweed, a real stepping stone.... if you ut a brownface next to a blackface it'll sound tweedier and if you put it next to a simiar tweed model it'll sound more scooped and blackface. Benn there :-) Perfect 'split the difference' fenders. So great and the concert/bandmaster platform is tasty. Great acquisition!
