A Glassy Gem with Unique Character

The Looking Glass is a versatile and well-crafted overdrive pedal that offers a unique flavor to your tone palette. Built like a tank, this sturdy unit immediately impressed us with its solid construction and attention to detail.

The pedal's controls are where it truly shines. We were particularly impressed by the exceptional EQ knobs, which allowed for extensive tone shaping. The input filter and bass cut controls offered us some truly unique adjustments, enabling us to dial in everything from a clean boost to higher gain sounds with ease.

Sound-wise, the Looking Glass delivers a clear, tube-like warmth that maintains note integrity beautifully. We found it especially suited for blues and clean tones, adding a touch of drive without sacrificing clarity. The overdrive is sweet and touch-sensitive, providing a dynamic and transparent sound that really sparkled with single-coil pickups.

However, it's not without its quirks. We noticed the footswitch was a bit clunky and noisy, which might be an issue for some players. Additionally, depending on your setup, it can sometimes be a tad bright or hissy, particularly with already crisp amps.

DOD really went out on top

As far as I can tell, Digitech seems to be clearing out all the DOD-branded stuff. I think a few of their releases from their last 5 years or so are really going to be sought-after items in the years to come, particularly the Rubberneck and this guy, the Looking Glass. I've also heard great things about the Carcosa, though I haven't played one, might be worth looking into.

I think the Rubberneck is one of the best analog delay pedals ever released, a true marriage of authentic vintage SFX with a modern feature set. It's hard to make such definitive claims about overdrives, especially with so many options out there and stellar examples seen from both larger brands and boutique shops. But the Looking Glass is really a bit of both, a collaboration between Digitech and SHOE, a small builder known for interesting designs.

Insofar as this pedal has a reputation, it seems to be as a transparent drive; and it can be, but it has interesting features that help it offer a bit more than that. The input filter is a bit like an amp's "presence" control, helping tame certain frequencies without changing the character of the drive much. What's really interesting to me though is that the "bass cut" control is pre-gain in the circuit, meaning that this control has a dramatic effect on how much drive you get out of the pedal. Just this one control makes it work quite differently from any other overdrive I've used, and it's important to know this when trying to dial in sounds. Everything else is fairly straightforward.

I like the jumper in the Low position, but there is quite a lot of distortion available in the High setting if you turn up both the bass cut and gain. The Looking Glass sounds REALLY good with single coils. If you find a good price on this (~$120 or less would be a steal at the time of this writing, but I imagine it'll be harder and harder to find them) it's definitely worth a look. One of the few ODs out there that does things a little bit differently than usual.

If you have a singlecoil in the neck position...you have to try this.

Fantastic. One of the very few drives that can keep up with an Okko Diablo in terms of dynamic and transparency, loves singlecoils!

The Best Overdrive pedal I own

Don't be fooled by the relative affordability of this pedal, It's very "boutique", and deserves to be on your board. Between this and my JHS "AT" I have all my overdrive sounds covered. I mainly use it at a high volume/low gain setting although it is capable of much much more. 5*

Nice & Transparent!

i was looking for a cleaner drive to put alongside my JHS sweat tea, this thing landed in my local music exchange & i took it home without even trying it in the store! listened to a demo & was sold, i've loved it ever since it strapped it to my board & its my main clean tone.
