Critic Reviews

Fender ’57 Custom Pro-Amp Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Fender '57 Custom Pro-Amp shines as a boutique-level amp with a vintage vibe, delivering rich, warm tones and serving as an excellent pedal platform. Its easy-to-use controls and quality build are commendable. However, its hefty $2,499 price and lack of built-in reverb may deter some users. If you're after a versatile, pedal-friendly amp and can overlook its nods to nostalgia, this lean machine is worth a spin.

Fender ’57 Custom Pro-Amp Review

guitar.com

The Fender '57 Custom Pro-Amp is a love letter to vintage tweed enthusiasts, offering a lush, room-filling sound thanks to its oversized cabinet and 15-inch Eminence speaker. This reissue stays mostly true to its vintage roots while incorporating modern reliability and features, making it a standout among Fender's tweed offerings. The amp shines with single-coil guitars, delivering a sweet high-end and a full-bodied low-end, but can struggle with bass-heavy humbuckers at high volumes, which might limit its versatility for some players. Overall, it's a compelling choice for those seeking vintage tones with a modern build.

the greatest Tele amp?

this amp was an impulse buy but is growing on me. Its really a great tele amp clean or dirty, but the 15" can add a new flavor to any guitar with the right EQ settings. Presence control is kinda worthless. Usually I don't give a shit about a mid control, but a mid would be useful on this amp over the presence.

Sounds great paired with an ac30. Or 2 ac30s as the dry amp in a wet/dry/wet type setup.

But enough about Patrick. This is an amp column, and when he turned up at a recent Tiger Beats gig to talk gear, he brought three Clydesdales with him: a vintage ’60s Danelectro Explorer, a Fender ’57 Custom Pro-Amp, and an Excelsior from Fender’s Pawn Shop series. What do his favorite amps have in common?

“A 15" speaker with an alnico magnet is it for me,” he says, “and 15 to 20 watts is my sweet spot, where the amp breaks up and still has some bottom end. I’m a fingerstyle player, with a thumbpick and two finger picks, so compression is the devil. Amps with 10" speakers are too harsh, which can work for playing lead like Freddie King, but when I was trying to find my sound, 15s were the answer. It’s very full and rich.”
