In the paragraph detailing the recording the recording of "Slow" and the "You Made Me Realize" EP, his preference for Transistor amps over Valve amps at the time, in which he mentions the Fender Sidekick series of amps.
We didn't like valve amps then. I found valve amps a bit too unfocused. I liked the harder, more focused sounds of transistor amps, especially those little Fender Sidekick amps. That was the sound.
Sold on Reverb.com in 2019 for charity.
This Fender Sidekick Reverb 30 Amplifier is from the private collection of Martin Gore, founding member of Depeche Mode
SN: 3615. Funky little solid state 90's Fender amp. Works as it should. Scuffs and marks from being well loved. Couple scratchy pots. Signed by Martin Gore.

In this BeatRoute magazine page, it shows that Bilinda Butcher was using a Fender Sidekick Reverb 30 as part of her live rig in the late 1980's, and was likely also used in their studio recording around that same time.
"I've used a tiny Japanese Fender Sidekick Reverb 30 practice amp on any number of projects since 1986 (when I bought it), and is actually one of Andy Partridge's favourite recording amps! I've also a Roland JC-120 combo and a Korg A2 Digital Processor that is useful for recording at home. "
