RECORDING Magazine Gear Review: Genelec 8351B

recordingmag.com

The Genelec 8351B SAM™ Studio Monitor pushes the boundaries of sound accuracy with its innovative design and impressive imaging capabilities. Its tri-amped system and advanced GLM software ensure tailored sound for any studio environment. While the high-end offers clarity, some may find it slightly bright, and the price tag of $3,995 might deter budget-conscious musicians. However, the low-end precision and transient response are standout features that elevate mixing experiences. If you're serious about your audio, these monitors are worth a demo.

Genelec 8351B & W371A

soundonsound.com

The Genelec 8351B SAM™ Studio Monitor is a technical marvel with impressive power and refined sound, boasting significant upgrades over its predecessor. Its three-way design ensures clarity across frequencies, while the enhanced DSP offers exceptional room optimization. However, the complexity of its GLM software may be daunting for some users, and its hefty price tag might deter budget-conscious musicians. Overall, it's a stellar choice for serious sound engineers but may not be necessary for casual users.

Genelec 8351B review: Redefining what's possible

higherhz.com

The Genelec 8351B SAMs deliver stunning audio quality with exceptional detail and stereo imaging, making them a dream for serious audio professionals. The innovative design is robust and versatile, especially when paired with the GLM calibration kit, which helps these monitors shine in limited spaces. However, this excellence comes at a steep price, with the addition of the GLM kit pushing an already hefty $8.4K investment even higher. While they set a high standard in monitoring, potential buyers should weigh the costs against their budget, as these monitors are not for the faint of heart.

Per this feature from MusicTech dated Sept. 15, 2021, you can clearly see a pair of Genelec 8351's. You can distinguish the 8351 from others in the Genelec SAM/"The Ones" series by the location of the green LED indicator relative to the central speaker cone, as well as the size of the cone circle relative to the rest of the body, aaand the monitor's relative size to everything else in the studio. Note the 8351A was replaced by the 8351B a few years before this feature was done, so I'm linking to the most current model that people can still buy. There are no visual differences between the 8351A and B.
