Description

While Bill Nash is best known for his high quality Fender-style builds, he also modifies Les Pauls by aging and replacing the individual hardware components, stripping and refinishing the instrument, and upgrading the electronics.

Guitar Review: Nash Les Paul | Jazz and Classic Pop Music

wordpress.com

A skeptic of Les Pauls comes away converted. This Nash-redone Gibson is praised as shockingly lively and resonant, with a superb setup, a comfortable mostly finish-free neck, and upgraded DiMarzios that tame the usual Gibson “woofiness.” The neck pickup finally delivers a usable overdriven lead tone, the bridge responds beautifully, and even the often-tricky middle position sounds balanced and characterful. The clever coil-tap wiring also earns points. The catch is brutal: at over $4,000, it’s a luxury buy, especially when other high-end guitars can be had for much less. The reviewer also starts from a place of skepticism about relic aging, though the guitar’s performance largely overrides that bias. Bottom line: expensive and niche, but if you want a great Les Paul without gambling on Gibson’s inconsistent quality, this is a compelling way to go.
