Critic Reviews

KRK: Rokit 5 G3 active monitor | Tape Op Magazine | Longform candid interviews with music producers and audio engineers covering mixing, mastering, recording and music production.

The KRK Rokit 5 G3 monitors offer a compelling value for their price, maintaining the signature design elements of their predecessors while introducing slight improvements in high-frequency control. They provide a warm, round sound, though some may find them a bit boomy in the low-mids. A notable downside is the auto-standby feature, which can disrupt workflow. While not delivering the ultimate in bass response, they pair well with headphones for a fuller range. A solid choice for budget-conscious users, but not without minor quirks.

KRK Rokit 5 G3 Studio Monitors Review

gadgetspage.com

The KRK Rokit 5 G3 studio monitors impress with their clear, powerful sound and versatile design, making them ideal for both beginners and advanced audio engineers. While their bass is slightly boosted and the auto-standby feature can be annoying, these are minor drawbacks in an otherwise solid package. With a decent price point, sturdy build, and accurate audio output, they offer great value for upgrading a home or professional studio. Just remember to grab some audio cables, as they're not included.

My babies. Not the best, but they're mine and I love them.

My babies. Not the best, but they're mine and I love them.

I bought these without much research just because I needed the cheapest, aesthetic-est, and most popular monitors since I was always stuck mixing on headphones.

The KRK's have been through hell and back with me. I bring them to live-sound gigs, DJ gigs, and they also chill with me in the studio at home. I can't count on my fingers how many times I've thrown these in the trunk on a way to a gig, and they still sound and look as good as the day I got them.

Although the Rokit's have grown a reputation of having a "bass-heavy, fun sounding" frequency response rather than the forever-sought "neutral, flat, revealing" frequency response of high end monitors, I have learned to mix pretty well on them, and that's all it comes down to when working on a track.

As long as you know your monitors or headphones well, you will be able to train your ears to mix on them flawlessly. I'm not saying I'm there, but new producers need to quit focusing on what they want and continue mastering the gear they have. That's what I plan to do with my KRK's before upgrading.
