My babies. Not the best, but they're mine and I love them.
My babies. Not the best, but they're mine and I love them.
I bought these without much research just because I needed the cheapest, aesthetic-est, and most popular monitors since I was always stuck mixing on headphones.
The KRK's have been through hell and back with me. I bring them to live-sound gigs, DJ gigs, and they also chill with me in the studio at home. I can't count on my fingers how many times I've thrown these in the trunk on a way to a gig, and they still sound and look as good as the day I got them.
Although the Rokit's have grown a reputation of having a "bass-heavy, fun sounding" frequency response rather than the forever-sought "neutral, flat, revealing" frequency response of high end monitors, I have learned to mix pretty well on them, and that's all it comes down to when working on a track.
As long as you know your monitors or headphones well, you will be able to train your ears to mix on them flawlessly. I'm not saying I'm there, but new producers need to quit focusing on what they want and continue mastering the gear they have. That's what I plan to do with my KRK's before upgrading.
