Comparisons

The Mesa Flux Drive is praised for its "fatness," particularly when paired with a Grid Slammer, while the Friedman BE-OD is noted for high-gain capabilities but less versatility for low-gain and lead tones.
Source -
The Friedman Dirty Shirley is recommended as a smoother alternative to the BE-OD, offering a midrange control absent in the BE-OD, which some users find harsh.

The Mesa Flux Drive is likened to a tweaked clone of the Xotic BB Preamp, offering higher gain than a Tubescreamer with enhanced EQ capabilities.
Source -
For those seeking a Recto sound, alternatives like the Nux Recto pedal, TCE Triple Wreck, and UA Knucklew are recommended over the Flux Drive.
Source -
The Flux Drive is compared to the Tube Screamer in terms of typology but is noted for offering more versatile tone shaping due to its baxandall EQ.

Use cases and applications
-
The Flux Drive is reportedly effective for smooth leads with sustain but may not be ideal for rhythm work, especially at lower gain settings.

The Mesa Flux Five, when used in a specific signal chain including an Ibanez Axion with Fishman Fluence pickups, produces impressive results for hard rock and metal tones.

The Flux Drive is not ideal for achieving a Mesa amp sound but suits mid-gain styles reminiscent of Incubus, Rage Against the Machine, and Foo Fighters.
Source -
The pedal excels at providing an excellent clean/edge of breakup sound, especially when stacking with a Tim clone for enhanced lead tones.

Features and functionality

Running the BE-OD at 18v can enhance its performance, providing more headroom and smoothing out the tone.
Source -
The Mesa Boogie Flux Drive offers a wide range of usable gain and tone capabilities, facilitated by its baxandall EQ, making it versatile in various settings.

My favorite overdrive pedal ever!
This is a seemingly simple, sturdy overdrive pedal with four knobs: level, gain, bass and treble. With this one, Mesa-Boogie clearly operates in the OCD-range, providing a drive pedal that is grittier than a TS-like, without sounding like a full-fledged distortion. I've owned all sorts of TS-like (from BOSS SD-1 to Maxon OD-9, as well as the real thing) and I can say it's much better than any of them, and not just because it has more gain on tap. It's also more transparent, juicier and produces a very silky tone that I've never found in any pedal I've tried before. It is perfectly responsive to the guitar's volume knob as well as to your picking attack. With just a few adjustments, you can go from slightly overdriven arpeggios to mean riffs. It has a voice on its own, full of bass, which I love very much. I think it can be used for any style, from meaty blues to alt-rock (and possibly metal, if used to push an already overdriven amp). In terms of design, it's perfect, the pedal is beautiful, the switch and knobs are sturdy. They'll resist many abuses for sure. I found it during the sales period for 130 euros, approximately, and at this price this is a steal. At its normal price (200 euros) there may be other options to think of (Xotic and Fulltone comes to mind). Yet, from a personal point of view, this is the best overdrive pedal I've ever owned and that includes some very good ones such as the Barber Direct Drive (close to this one, but a little too dark) and the Death by Audio Interstellar Overdriver (a totally different beast, which I only sold because I found it too noisy and low gain/high volume). Anyway, the Flux-Drive definitely deserves a try.
Nice dirt
I was using a Timmy on my board until I got this. I use it to add a little dirt when playing bass with a pick. But, it's a great all around pedal that can get really grindy. Mesa stuff is super reliable. Heavy duty build.

Perfect drive for any set
I first used this pedal at a studio where I was recording a song. I didn't bring my overdrive so they lent me this... In that moment I knew this little box was the sound I was looking for in an overdrive
