Review: Mistweaver Effects Forestry & The Serpent

guitar.com

Mistweaver Effects' Forestry and The Serpent deliver compelling sounds but come with notable caveats. The Forestry’s overdrive captures a punchy, dynamic character, though it falls short of its “Dumble in a box” claim, and its lack of labeled controls can frustrate users. Meanwhile, The Serpent offers a thick, aggressive fuzz reminiscent of classic pedals, yet similarly suffers from ambiguous knob labeling. Both pedals shine when used together, creating a rich sonic landscape, but their aesthetics leave something to be desired. While Mistweaver shows promise with these initial offerings, the lack of clarity in control design hampers their otherwise strong performance.

Mistweaver Effects Forestry review on pedal-of-the-day.com

pedal-of-the-day.com

The Mistweaver Effects Forestry Overdrive delivers a rich, touch-sensitive overdrive that enhances any rig with its extensive control options. With a unique presence knob and a toggle for two clipping modes, it offers impressive tonal versatility. While it excels at low-to-mid gain, it can unleash a powerful, aggressive sound when cranked up, making it suitable for rock enthusiasts. However, some may find the sheer volume generated could be overwhelming in quieter settings. Overall, the Forestry Overdrive stands out as an exceptional choice for guitarists seeking that coveted Dumble-like tone, promising excitement for both players and neighbors alike.

so good that i got two of them

i got one of these a while ago, thinking i'd just mess around with it. i'd seen a few demos online for this, and it caught my eye enough to try it out. but wow does this drive really sing. there are three modes on it, two of them can get really crunchy like how you would expect a regular drive would, and the third one is just like a really driven tube amp. i got a second one after i saw how much use i was getting out of the first one.

if you ever find yourself recording directly into your audio interface through pedals, you can stick this one at the very end of your chain and use the tube amp mode as an amp modeler. i don't use it like this, but i wanted to see how it sounds, and you can fine-tune it so you can't even really tell that you're not using a mic to record an amp. really good stuff
