Review: Novation Launchkey mk II : Ask.Audio

ask.audio

The Novation Launchkey Mini MK2 shines with seamless Ableton Live integration and a robust feature set for its price. Its synth-weighted keys offer a satisfying touch for synth play, complemented by vibrant velocity-sensitive pads with excellent visual feedback. While its narrower keys might not appeal to those preferring piano-style weighted keys, and lack of aftertouch is a minor drawback, its versatile DAW compatibility via InControl mode makes it a solid choice for electronic musicians. Ideal for those seeking a compact, feature-rich MIDI controller to enhance their workflow.

Cheap, portable......and very flimsy.

Got this over a year ago and it has been very good to me and it works extremely well wth Ableton but getting it synced up with FL Studio and Logic is a hassle. Just plug it into your computer and you are good to go, instant connection to Ableton. However, you must be careful with the keys, as they are quite flimsy and may break off if too much force is put onto them (basically, just don't be an idiot and smash your fingers to the keys when jamming) like mine did.

Portable and Easily Accessible Studio Centerpiece

The LK Mini MK2 is, to put it in one phrase, exceptionally usable. As of now, I use it as my studio centerpiece, and it works great. While I have a Midi Fighter 3d for drums, you can easily record percussion patterns on its pads. The keys feel okay, but not great. The InControl mode is what really makes this a great piece of gear. It allows for clip launching and stopping on the touch of a pad, and it allows for easy recording and playback. I use this feature any time I sit down to produce a track. Overall, it's great for anyone that wants a simple all-in-one controller that can easily be the centerpiece for their studio.

Versatile and Useful

This keyboard is very sturdy and very good quality, and I really enjoy using it. It doubles as a drum machine, using the pads, and the knobs serve as an effects module. The lack of keys can be tricky, but it's not too hard to work around. Overall, great tool.

For a budget MIDI controller, this thing rocks!

This one is actually what I do my drums on since I don't know how to play and I don't even have a drum set. Great for travel and for home-studio stuff.

Small, yet surprisingly useful

While this MIDI keyboard is quite small to work with comfortably in the studio, its 8 knobs and 16 pads are more than enough to make up for it.
