Critic Reviews

Novation Impulse 49

soundonsound.com

The Novation Impulse 49 MIDI Keyboard is a versatile and user-friendly controller, praised for its reliable synth-style keyboard action and ample controls, including knobs, sliders, and buttons. Its Automap DAW integration is a notable feature, although its effectiveness can vary depending on the DAW and plugins used. While the aftertouch behavior differs between black and white keys, and there are minor issues with drum pad triggering, these don't overshadow its overall functionality. Ideal for studio use, the Impulse 49's ease of programming and flexibility make it a strong contender for musicians seeking a capable controller.

Novation Impulse 49 review | Digital Piano Review Guide

digitalpianoreviewguide.com

The Novation Impulse 49 impresses with its solid build, versatile controls, and seamless integration with Ableton, making it a great choice for serious musicians. With semi-weighted keys, responsive pads, and customizable knobs and faders, this MIDI keyboard offers a satisfying tactile experience. However, the sensitivity of the knobs can be a bit tricky, requiring precision. While it might not suit beginners or those without computers, it's a standout option for its price range, especially for Ableton users. Overall, it's a commendable tool for those diving into digital music production.

Novation Impulse 49 - Attack Magazine

attackmagazine.com

Novation's Impulse 49 is a well-rounded MIDI controller, striking an impressive balance between feature set and price. Its standout qualities include build quality, versatile arpeggiator, and aftertouch-sensitive pads, which make it a compelling choice for drum programming. The Automap software has room for improvement, occasionally falling short of seamless integration. Despite a slightly plasticky feel, the Impulse's robust functionality and bundled software package make it a top contender in its class, justifying its price over rivals like M-Audio's Axiom. Recommended for those prioritizing unique features and comprehensive control capabilities.

Great midi-controller with really nice pads

This midi controller is a really nice one from Novation. The first thing I like from the Impulse series of midi controllers is their construction. It's much more solid an sturdy than the new lines like Launchkey, which seems quite more cheap to me, and indeed they are cheaper. With automap your really don't have to route that many things unless you require more specific routing. There are a lot of specs to check like the midi zones, but you will need to read a good manual to understand how to use it properly. What I love the most from this midi-keyboard and it's actually the reason I bought it, are its pads. They feel really really nice, and are quite sensitive, not as hard as the AKAI which you have to hit really hard in order to get a proper response. The keys from the keyboard have after touch and they seem quite decent, so you shouldn't worry about the durability.

I will totally recommend this product

I had bad luck

I purchased two of these and the pitch wheel went crazy within a span of several months. Perhaps it's still a great controller all around - I just had very poor luck with these twice in a row, unfortunately.

ocebot

Really nice keybed

I'm not a pianist or anything but this has one of the nicest keyboard feels I've ever laid finger on. Especially at this price range. Perfect for my little starter production environment, Mapping it to Ableton was a sinch and it easily interacts with KOMPLETE too.

ptysounds

mmm could be a little more tougher

Not to robust. pitch and mod wheels went crazy in less than a year.. still its fun to use and it helps me do my stuff.

rieley_james_ped

Great Keyboard for how much I paid for it

I paid $100 for this controller, I would say that is what it is worth. I use it for FL Studio and the mapping software by novation is not set up for FL Studio. If they decide to change that I would say it's worth a lot more

Novation

This happens to be my master keyboard I love the feel of the keys they feel ice piano keys the mod wheel is excellent the sliders are handy for integration with your daw as well as the knobs are programmable but do tend to feel like they are cheap doesn't feel like you're turning real knobs the drum pads can serve minor purpose but can come handy at times for additional drumming or triggering of loops

philipwinsnes

I love it!

The novation impulse 49 has a very cool design, its perfect for every studio! Its perfect that you can go into the plugin in your daw example massive you can go and change like the sustain or anything you want BUT the only bad thing is that the signal from the keyboards mixer to the daw and also the mute and solo is pretty slow so thats why i don't give it 5 stars but i think this is one of the best midi controllers of all time!

hellomynameisgavin

All you need in your basic Keyboard controller.

Its a controller. Its a keyboard. Its got keys! 49-of them! Its a drum pad. It senses velocities! Its got sliders and knobs. Its cool. sadly, i haven't gotten around to fully utilizing it.

B

Very good Quality for the Money.

I love using it because it is easy to play the notes, and it integrates seamlessly with any DAW, (that I know of).
