Keyfax Hardware Phat Boy

soundonsound.com

The Phat Boy MIDI Controller is celebrated for its intuitive, hands-on control over GS/XG synths, providing a straightforward solution for real-time sound manipulation. Its compact design houses essential controls for dynamic sound shaping, allowing musicians to bypass tedious menus. While it excels in enhancing user interaction with limited parameters, it still offers a significant expansion of tonal possibilities for synths, making it a valuable tool for both beginners and experienced users. However, its functionality is somewhat restricted by the limited number of accessible parameters. Overall, it is a commendable addition to any musician's setup, effectively breathing new life into otherwise static synth sounds.

the old workhorse

I have at long last retired the phatboy 2. It served me well. It was an excellently made controller though could be a bit finicky assigning CC parameters to synths like the mks50. Once you had it was great. For DAW work there's better stuff now with faders and recall. But at the time I got this it was sweet.

sara_richey

It is old school.

Don't use it much anymore but it was built! Played well with Roland.

I have one somewhere that's handy with 2 of my rackmount synths and with the poly800. Good with fruityloops too when the mouse is too jittery for fancy filter tweaks in real time.
