Article: Review: Novation Launch Control XL | Cycling '74

cycling74.com

The Novation Launch Control XL impresses with its robust build and versatile functionality, making it a solid upgrade from more basic controllers like the Korg NanoKontrol. Its layout of 8 sliders and 24 knobs, alongside backlit multicolored buttons, provides ample control and visual feedback for live performances. Ease of customization through a simple editor app further enhances its appeal. While the price may not be the lowest compared to competitors like the Akai MIDIMix, the Launch Control XL's design and performance features make it a worthwhile investment for serious musicians looking for a reliable, portable MIDI controller.

Novation Launch Control XL review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Novation Launch Control XL is a standout Ableton Live controller praised for its robust build, intuitive design, and ease of setup. While it's ideally suited for live performance, it also excels as a studio mixing tool. Users benefit from the inclusion of Ableton Live Lite and editor software, offering enhanced flexibility. However, the inability to modify Send knobs, especially in User mode, is a noted limitation. Despite this, the overall versatility and thoughtful design make it a recommended choice for both live and studio environments.

The Novation Launch Control XL earns high marks for its portability and robust build, providing an excellent companion to the Launchpad for Ableton Live users. Its intuitive plug-and-play setup and customizable controls make it a versatile tool, though the closely packed encoders might irk some users. While the absence of a crossfader is noted, its solid layout and seamless Live integration make it a must-have for electronic music aficionados.

Novation Launch Control XL Controller Review - Digital DJ Tips

digitaldjtips.com

The Novation Launch Control XL is a robust, compact MIDI mixer that complements Ableton Live users with physical controls, providing a tactile experience that outshines the typical screen and mouse setup. Its intuitive layout mimics a traditional mixer, making it user-friendly for those familiar with such gear. The faders, while great for precision, may not appeal to those seeking rapid effect adjustments. Despite its practical design, the lack of visual feedback necessitates frequent screen-checking, potentially hindering seamless performances. However, its affordability and functionality make it a valuable addition to any Ableton Live setup, especially when paired with a Launchpad.

Great controller, but I don't use it for my live set anymore.

My former controller. Responsible for the volume of each stem in the track. Was sold in March of this year. The main reason was the transition to the Xone K2, which is more like a DJ mixer.

Solid good stuff

A nice knobs/slider controller. The interface with ableton is really useful for many many things that I haven't even thought about ! Mapping everything with 8 users presets is really useful. Therefore it's not cheap... but it worth it definitely

Favorite controller

Has everything I need, and is way more affordable than the Akai MPD or AC line. If I had one wish it would be for more pads, but that's what my LPD8 is for.

kimba_nevile

Great controller!

I primarily use this as a controller for my Circuit. It makes it easier to do tweaking on the fly.

digibilly

Mixing is cake.
