Critic Reviews

PreSonus Faderport 8

soundonsound.com

The PreSonus FaderPort 8 shines as a compact, well-built MIDI control surface with excellent integration for Studio One users, offering hands-on control at an appealing price point. Its motorized faders and smooth automation handling make it a delight for tactile mixing. However, its performance in other DAWs via HUI and MCU protocols is plagued by quirks and inconsistencies, leading to potential frustration outside of Studio One. The absence of dedicated pan pots and a scrub wheel might also deter some users. Ideal for those committed to Studio One, but proceed cautiously with other software.

Review: Presonus Faderport 8 — AudioTechnology

audiotechnology.com

Presonus's FaderPort 8 is a robust, budget-friendly control surface that excels with its smooth, motorized faders and tight integration with Studio One. It's a delight for hands-on mixing with remarkable functionality and feel. However, it's not without flaws: the single pan pot and cramped Solo/Mute buttons can be a bit frustrating, and the external power supply feels a bit cheap. While perfect for Studio One users, its plug-in control in Pro Tools is less intuitive, requiring customization for the best experience. Despite these niggles, it's a stellar choice for those seeking a cost-effective, high-quality control surface, especially when paired with Studio One.

PreSonus: FaderPort 8 Mixer Control Surface | Tape Op Magazine | Longform candid interviews with music producers and audio engineers covering mixing, mastering, recording and music production.

tapeop.com

The PreSonus FaderPort 8 impresses with its robust build and seamless integration, offering an affordable entry into the world of control surfaces. Its touch-sensitive motorized faders and intuitive layout provide a satisfying hands-on mixing experience. The unit's compatibility with various DAWs, including Pro Tools and Studio One, highlights its versatility. However, the lack of individual pan encoders and some button limitations in HUI mode may frustrate users seeking more comprehensive control. The low contrast of its LCD displays and a few operational quirks, such as timeline scrubbing issues in Pro Tools, slightly detract from the experience. Despite these minor setbacks, the FaderPort 8's solid performance and value make it a recommended choice for those looking to enhance their mixing workflow.

PreSonus FaderPort 8 Review - Bringing back the Human Touch

musictech.com

The PreSonus FaderPort 8 is a proficient MIDI control surface that excels in providing tactile feedback and seamless integration with PreSonus Studio One, making it a standout choice for users of this DAW. Its eight motorized faders and comprehensive control features enhance workflow efficiency. While its compatibility with other DAWs like Logic and Live is generally solid, setup can be occasionally cumbersome, and its functionality isn't as robust outside the PreSonus ecosystem. Overall, for Studio One users, it's a compelling, well-priced package, although those using other DAWs might face some integration quirks.

Its motorized faders and seamless integration with Studio One, as well as other DAWs, offer precision and ease for a variety of tasks, from editing plugins to managing track parameters. While it's best suited for Studio One, it performs admirably with Logic Pro X, demonstrating its versatility. However, its functionality with Record/Reason may be limited without updates. Very powerful versatile mixing controller board for Studio One DAW.

This controller here and the Studio One DAW are what keep me sticking with PreSonus to be the "core" of my personal studio. This controller-board is well built and features very nice motorized faders.

I went with the 8-channel Faderport not just for the price-point, but because that was all I needed, plus both the 8 and 16 channel models have all of the same exact controls and features. ….and number of channels doesn't matter anyway, because you are not actually restricted to controlling eight channels. You can set up another set of eight channels (from the DAW) and switch between them on the fly instantly.

There is a little bit of a learning-curve to using this board (it took weeks), but once you have, ....the options for controlling a lot of the parameters in the Studio One and the ease of controlling them are endless. It is the perfect mate to Studio One!
