Solid Gold FX NU-33 Vinyl Engine review on pedal-of-the-day.com

pedal-of-the-day.com

Solid Gold FX's NU-33 Vinyl Engine brings a fresh twist to modulation with its unique lo-fi charm, effectively emulating the vintage noise of worn vinyl. Its versatile controls allow musicians to explore lush chorus and vibrato effects, enhanced by added hiss and crackle for that authentic retro feel. However, while the pedal excels in creativity, some users may find its complexity daunting, requiring a bit of a learning curve to master its full potential. Overall, the NU-33 is a compelling addition for those seeking to expand their sonic palette, but it might not suit everyone’s taste for straightforward modulation.

Awesome chorus/vibrato, with a couple bonus features that are decently executed

I got this pedal because i'm a big lofi nerd and love getting wacky sounds that remain tasteful out of my gear. This definitely accomplishes that, but not quite as well as I had hoped. The core is excellent. The chorus and vibrato sound fantastic and are very versatile. The different colors all bring something unique, yet not too unique to the point where its too different to fill a similar space, which I love. This thing covers subtle to crazy too. The flutter knob becomes absolutely crazy when cranked, which is cool, but finds its sweetspot at around 10 or 11. Couple complaints though, the hiss's starting point is far too loud. Looking for subtlety there is impossible. It's either hiss or off. It's almost as if they could have made it a simple on/ off switch. And that brings me to my next point, the crackle switch. This one IS an on/ off switch that I wish had a knob to control the volume. It is a very satisfying crackly and it works sometimes but a good 80%-90% of the time it is simply far too loud. Those are some pretty substantial complaints, I know, especially for dedicated vinyl engine pedal. So why give this pedal 4? Well, despite those two glaring issues, the pedal sounds absolutely fantastic in a majority of it's settings and is very fun to play around and experiment with. I want to LOVE this pedal but as of now I just really, really, really like it. With those two issues fixed, it would get 5 stars from me easily.
