  • Electronics, particularly pots and switches, often degrade after extended use, leading to scratchy sounds and weak pickups.

    Source
  • Vintage Modified models have a rosewood fingerboard and clear lacquer neck, contrasting with the Classic Vibe's tinted neck.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Owners recommend using Loctite on bridge parts to prevent movement, which can cause tuning instability.

    Source
  • Back threading, or turning screws backward until they fall into existing grooves, prevents neck screw holes from stripping during shim installation.

    Source
  • A well-set Classic Vibe with good fretwork and hardware can be excellent stock, but Vintage Modified models may require more initial investment for similar results.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Classic Vibe models feature angled neck pockets, differing from the flat neck pockets of the Vintage Modified models, potentially reducing the need for shimming.

Critic Reviews

Squier Vintage Modified Series Jazzmaster review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster is a budget-friendly gem boasting impressive versatility. It features a playable neck and versatile Duncan Designed JM-101 pickups, delivering sweet tones suitable for various genres from surf to punk. However, the bulky controls and an awkward jackplate detract slightly from the experience, and the neck-body join could be cleaner. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Jazzmaster stands out with vibrant playability and sound quality that surpasses its price point, making it a fantastic choice for those seeking a classic vibe with modern reliability.

great guitar

The bridge is ass, had to get a tension bar and even still it buzzes at the bridge. Other that, it is great! I love the feel of it and it sounds great

zachariah_connor

A steal

Plays and feels amazing, plus mine has lots of birds eye on the neck. Upgraded with Mastery Bridge and The Creamery Pickups

manu_ocaranza

Good guitar but can be better

Pro's: It´s a pretty nice guitar, is very comfotarble to play, nice weight, and it's pretty faithfull to the original jazzmaster's. I've changed the pickups, the bridge and the electronics, and it's wonderfull!

ant_30thoffeb

favorite full scale guitar

mine is red and is stock. actually it has some sort of bar on the trem that helps keep it in tune/keep the strings on the bridge?

dragenhjerte

Good place to start

Heavily modded since I took it out of the box! Mastery Bridge, Fender locking tuners, Fender stock replacement tremolo, Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups, vintage type tone capacitors, real metal shielding, replacement Switchcraft switches. Definitely finished with the mods. Love it

Vintage spec, poor wood choice

My guitar is heavily modified to sound awesome, but the basswood body is very soft and flimsy feeling.

louis_schelfhout

Got what I paid for.

Volume pot for lead circuit died within a year.
