Critic Reviews

Strymon El Capistan V2 review

guitar.com

Strymon's El Capistan V2 is a refined take on a classic, delivering stunning tape echo simulations with added features like MIDI control and enhanced connectivity. While the upgrades may not compel V1 owners to rush for an upgrade, the new JFET input and improved DSP chip elevate sound clarity, providing a richer echo experience. The addition of a spring reverb control is a welcome touch, though some might find its effect subtle. Ultimately, if you're new to the El Capistan family, this version offers a compelling introduction to one of the best tape echo pedals available, but existing users might feel the V1 still holds its own.

Strymon V2 blueSky Reverberator and V2 El Capistan DTape Echo review | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

Strymon's El Capistan dTape Echo V2 retains the beloved warmth and realism of its predecessor, now enhanced with MIDI capabilities and improved dynamic responsiveness. The addition of new control features and a discrete JFET input circuit elevates its low-noise performance. However, while the upgrades are impressive, they might not be absolutely necessary for existing users, and its premium price could deter some. For those seeking top-notch echo effects, the V2 is a compelling choice, blending classic character with modern functionality.

Big update. Now with MIDI

Previously I had version 1, I sold that pedal just to buy version 2 which has MIDI control. If I loved this pedal before, now even more, the MIDI control, with MIDI clock function, is much better for me. The sound seems a bit better to me as well than the previous version, plus it now has a dedicated knob for spring reverb. One of my best pedals, without a doubt.
