Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Voodoo Lab - Pedal Power® 4x4.

Features and functionality

  • A current doubler cable is needed to combine outputs, but it's confirmed the Voodoo Lab 4x4 cannot power the HX Effects alone due to insufficient current.

    Source
  • The 4x4 has four high-current outputs at 9V and two at 12V, important for powering modern digital pedals requiring higher current.

    Source
  • A 9V Strymon cannot be powered by a 12V output on the 4x4; each output is fixed to its labeled voltage.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Cioks DC-7, Strymon Zuma/Ojai, and Truetone CS-6/7/12 are recommended alternatives for powering HX Effects, preferred over the Voodoo Lab 4x4.

    Source
  • The Pedal Power 2 Plus has 250 mA high outputs, not sufficient for modern digital pedals like Strymon, unlike the 4x4 which accommodates them.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • HX Effects requires over 1A at boot-up, a critical factor when choosing a power supply.

    Source
  • The 4x4 is preferred for setups with 2-3 digital pedals, like Eventide or Strymon, due to its higher current capabilities.

    Source
  • The 4x4 can comfortably power an interim board with a mix of analog pedals and digital effects, such as Boss tuners and Big Muff fuzz pedals.

    Source

User experience

  • Velcro from previous owners can effectively secure the 4x4; however, some prefer using brackets for more secure mounting under pedalboards.

    Source
  • Owners report satisfaction using the 4x4 on boards with multiple gain pedals, emphasizing flexibility for future expansion.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Split cables work well for low-power pedals like the Boss BD-2 and DS-1 when powered by the 4x4, provided the output has enough current.

    Source
  • Some users opt to power additional pedals directly from a Boss TU3 output jack, delaying the need for an expander.

Much more versatile then a 2+, the voodoo lab pedal powers are the best way to power your gear.

As a guitarist, I am a gearhead. Thus, I love pedals. But sometimes, us guitarists forget one of the most important part of them, power. Without power, our wahs wouldn't wah, our compressors wouldn't squish, and our pedals would basically just be kill switches. Now with power comes two options, battery or adapter. Batteries are much more convenient, but don't live forever and can lose voltage. Adapters last forever, but often add noise to your setup when sharing power. Enter the pedal power. The pedal power system uses isolated power outs, like our beloved batteries, but have the longevity and quality of adapters. My 4X4 can power virtually anything. Old boss "ACA" with the 12 volt out, a strymon or eventide high voltage pedal, the list goes on. I mainly chose the 4X4 over the 2 plus because of the additional 12 volt power options. I have no complaints about the pedal power, it's the best pedal investment I've made.

Great for power-hungry pedals.

Delivers more mA than most powerbricks. And still I had to combine two 400mA ports to satisfy my Line 6 Relay G10S wireless receiver (550mA)...

Options

The 9v+12v options are great for those of us out there with some more power-hungry pedals.

Insert clever pun

This is an awesome solution for people who use a lot of high draw pedals. It's clean, quiet and easily mounted on most pedal boards.
