Description

Made in collaboration with Analog Man himself, Brothers AM is a tribute to the legendary King of Tone overdrive.

It takes that coveted circuit, gives you advanced control, and tosses in a couple exciting bonuses – but it doesn’t mess with what made it so good in the first place.

A stack of sunny saturation that always manages to sound just right. Analog Man’s level of hand-made care has been unmatched and unchanged since the 90’s. There’s no replicating it – each King of Tone is made entirely by hand with near-unobtainable parts.

So instead of trying to clone it, Brothers AM goes further. We worked closely with Analog Man to create an expanded counterpart that lets you enjoy the coveted circuit in a new way.

Change modes on the fly

Access previously hidden parameters

Explore a bonus treble booster circuit

Control everything externally (expression, MIDI, CV)

All entirely preset savable.

Brothers AM is our most intuitive pedal.

At its heart are two identical, multi-mode gain channels for you to stack, combine, and switch. Choose between boost, overdrive, or distortion, set the gain, set the tone. Done.

In every mode, and every setting, it just sounds good.

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Chase Bliss Audio Brothers AM.

User experience

  • Some owners experience a delay with the relay switching, making it less suitable for live use where immediate pedal activation is needed.

    Source
  • Despite its capabilities, the Brothers AM has been noted for having an unnatural fizz in low gain decays, which can be mitigated by using the OD into the Boost side.

    Source
  • Some owners experience difficulty tuning out inherent brightness/harshness, finding the presence/tone controls less effective than a 2-band EQ.

    Source

Build quality

  • Some users suggest that the knob layout could be improved for better symmetry, although this is considered a minor issue.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • With its MIDI capabilities, the pedal is particularly suited for those with a MIDI rig, allowing for complex preset uses and smaller board setups.

    Source
  • The Brothers AM can potentially replace multiple dirt pedals on a board, like a TS clone, Duke of Tone, and Cinders, offering more versatile setups.

    Source
  • Ideal for players incorporating MIDI-controlled setups, allowing seamless preset changes during live performances or complex rigs.

    Source
  • The Brothers AM performs better at lower volumes compared to the KoT, making it suitable for home practice.

    Source
  • The Robins pedal is favored for its saturated, chainsaw-like high-gain tones, especially effective with humbucker setups.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The pedal is considered a practical alternative to having multiple boutique options like the Prince of Tone, offering more functionality in a single unit.

    Source
  • The Brothers AM includes a treble booster, offering a cleaner and brighter sound than the Beano Boost, likely due to silicon components.

    Source
  • The Brothers AM offers a tighter, more focused KoT-like tone, described as a "KoT that cleaned up its act".

    Source
  • The Halberd is praised for its versatility and ability to outperform the Fairfield Barbershop on similar tones while offering more heavy sound options.

    Source
  • When compared to the Automatone Preamp Mk II, the Brothers AM is less tweakable EQ-wise but provides distinct drive sounds.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The center switch activates the treble booster, which runs before channel 1, adding flexibility in setup for those who prioritize boost into drive configurations.

    Source
  • The pedal includes a treble booster with two variations—classic and beamo—allowing users to run a boost into a drive into a distortion seamlessly.

    Source
  • The pedal offers stackable overdrives and treble boost with external dip-switch mods, providing significant tonal flexibility without relying on MIDI.

    Source
  • The Brothers AM offers presets, allowing users to switch between edge of breakup, crunch, and full-on drive settings for different amps.

    Source
  • MIDI integration allows remote bypass and channel control, enhancing stage performances by syncing with click tracks and lights.

    Source
  • The Brothers AM's dual pedal setup and presets can simplify switching drive levels when using different amps or sounds.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • The $399 price point is seen as a good deal considering it combines the functionality of multiple boutique pedals, including two ODs, two distortions, a boost, and MIDI control.

Chase Bliss Brothers AM Dual Overdrive Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Chase Bliss Audio Brothers AM is a versatile powerhouse for guitarists seeking a dynamic overdrive pedal. This collaborative creation with Analog Man captures the essence of the coveted King of Tone, offering a range of tones from subtle to fierce. Its dual-circuit design, coupled with a treble booster and DIP switches, provides an expansive tonal palette. While the pedal shines in most settings, its higher gain levels can introduce heavy compression, which might not suit everyone. Nevertheless, the Brothers AM excels in enhancing guitar and amp interactions, making it a must-have for those craving lively and robust tones.

Chase Bliss Brothers AM review: can it live up to its price tag?

guitar.com

Chase Bliss Brothers AM delivers a versatile, intuitive experience with phenomenal sound, making it a standout in the drive pedal market. Its collaboration with Analog Man results in a pedal that captures the essence of the King Of Tone while offering expanded functionality and control. Despite its hefty $399 price tag, it offers two dirt pedals in one, with impressive flexibility that includes presets and MIDI control. The boost modes add distinct character, perfect for lead guitarists. Though not cheap, its design, sound quality, and ease of use justify the cost, potentially making it the last drive pedal you'll ever need.

With a nod to the legendary King of Tone, it offers a dual-channel overdrive experience that's both rich and flexible, thanks to its MIDI capabilities and innovative design. If, like me, you're not into the lore of the King of Tone, you don't really understand why people have to have that specific pedal but you want something that is undeniably great on your board, I think this is a really good option.

It's a pedal that can kind of meet you where you are as a player. If you want something simple, just a dual stage overdrive or boost or distortion. But for you more adventurous or advanced players that are using things like expression control or CV control, you've got options for that as well.
