The Ugly Guitar Truth: Hands on Review Of TC Electronic's Prophet Digital Delay

theuglyguitartruth.blogspot.com

TC Electronic's The Prophet Digital Delay is a solid budget-friendly option with a sturdy build that's larger than most compact pedals. While its design accommodates larger feet and allows for neat pedalboard arrangement, it offers very basic features compared to TC's usual limitless offerings. The soft click bypass and unique delay handling add value, but the pedal's simplicity is a letdown for those expecting more from the brand. It outperforms other low-cost models like the JOYO Digital Delay, but the limited functionality keeps it from being a standout. Ideal for those seeking a straightforward digital delay.

Reviewed: TC Electronic Prophet Digital Delay - Mixdown Magazine

mixdownmag.com.au

The TC Electronic Prophet Digital Delay is a versatile pedal that excels in delivering both atmospheric and punchy modern delay tones. Its intuitive controls and design make it easy to use, offering a range of delay subdivisions and a mix setting that ensures precise, immersive sound. While it lacks the high-end roll-off typical of analog or tape delays, this digital delay shines in modern heavy music or metal styles. Overall, the Prophet is a strong contender for those seeking crisp, three-dimensional delays.

TC Electronic The Prophet Digital Delay review on pedal-of-the-day.com

pedal-of-the-day.com

TC Electronic's The Prophet Digital Delay impresses with studio-quality sound at a budget-friendly price. Its simple yet versatile design, featuring Time, Mix, and Repeats controls, allows for a range of delay times from 200ms to 1300ms. The 3-position switch adds flexibility for different delay styles, from slapback to spacey echoes. Built sturdily, it offers great tonal enhancement, making it a top choice for musicians on a tight budget. However, its simplicity might not satisfy those seeking more advanced features. Nonetheless, it's a winner for those prioritizing affordability and quality.

Another winner from TC Electronic!

This is exactly what I was looking for in a delay. Good sound, easy interface, and road-ready ruggedness!

Whoever owned this pedal before me, thank you for getting rid of it. Because this was the missing piece I was needing for my tone!

Less is more

Incredible tone for a ridiculous price tag. How did TC do it? Getting such a great crisp and cutting digital delay tone with so wide variations in pots out of such a tiny price? This is a metal pedal casing, not a compromised plastic thing. Also on the inside everything is produced in a very tidy way. No cutting corners. There really is only one disadvantage for me (very personal). In one of my songs I strike a chord and immediately push the delay to make it echo in a sharp, crisp way for 3 to for times, then I strike the next chord etc. at that first chord when I engage it, the pedal is a tiny bit too slow. I’d have to kick it just before the chord, but the risk of messing it up is just too big. So I traded it for a Trem Jr, because I already have 3 other delay pedals (MXR CarbonCopy analog delay, TC Vintage Delay - which is a T.Rex replica rebadged -, and a BOSS DD-3 MIJ).

Preferred Settings + Usage:

Any setting. It sounds so crisp. I couldn’t flaw it for it’s tone or features, regardless of it’s price tag. Just the lag at engagement is a bit too long for me.

Fav delay for under 300

My favorite analog delay that I have been able to buy without guilt. Try it out in your effects loop as it's worth twice the price at least.

good for basic delaying beats

By no means a bad delay pedal, but has limited settings. While I am not a fan of the 1/16, 1/8, 3/8 switch design, you can multiply beats live and change the repetition patterns between those three.

Straight digital delay

A very straightforward digital delay that doesn't really try to go for an analog emulation. The chopping effect when you turn the time knob (as opposed to the traditional "spaceship noises") is the main reason I bought this pedal and it does not disappoint. It is also capable of some gnarly oscillations at higher delay/repeat settings. I do wish the delay time could go a little longer (it maxes out at 1300ms), and that the pedal was a little smaller, but other than that it does what it needs to and works really well in a delay stack due to its clean and clear signal.

Best delay pedal for the money

Pros: 1. Pristine digital delays from the company that made the famous Flashback delay pedal. 2. Costs less than a Boss DD3 but sounds as good as a TC Flashback without its frills. 3. Very simple to use. 4. Top mounted 5. The 3/8, 1/8 and 1/16 settings are extremely useful for macro settings post which one can dial in fine tuned settings using the knobs 6. The shape and size of the knobs are perfect for even dialing in fine sounds with a toe.

Cons: Size. It's rather large.

Absolute bargain

Great pedal, well built, great sounding digital delay. Amazing for the price point, could be made better with a tap tempo, and its dissapointing the the delay trails stop immediately once the effect is turned off

blondguru

Good for the Price

$60 for a Digital Delay that isn't some brand from Asia that may never be delivered. I dig it, but I know I should probably find something better, with a tap tempo. I leave this on 1/8, repeats down, with the time low enough to sound like a doubled track.

It's a very true delay pedal

Very cosmic.... Very "velvety"... You want to okay psycoledelic rock at a reasonable price this is the one for you.

lost_in_reverb

A really good digital delay

I used it a lot,in fact a few songs were based on some experiments using this pedal, but when i bought the Zoom MS70 CDR i stopped playing with the Tc.
