Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Electro-Harmonix Nano Metal Muff.

Features and functionality

  • The EQ knobs are highly sensitive; small adjustments result in significant tonal changes, which can be both a benefit and a challenge for precise sound tuning.

    Source
  • The top boost feature can produce a nasally tone reminiscent of the intro to "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath," but is often described as sounding harsh or unpleasant.

    Source
  • The Nano Metal Muff includes a built-in gate, which is a significant addition compared to older models, offering noise reduction and more controlled sound.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Some users prefer the Nano Metal Muff over the Revv G3 for its unique sound, particularly noting it as fuzzier than typical distortion pedals, but not akin to a Big Muff.

    Source
  • Some users find the Metal Muff preferable to the Mesa Throttle Box for metal tones, despite its lower price.

    Source
  • The Nano Metal Muff is noted as being cheaper than other Big Muff models, offering more affordability without compromising on core features.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • This pedal excels in delivering a thrash metal sound, making it well-suited for genres requiring high-gain distortion with a fuzzy edge.

    Source
  • The pedal excels with humbuckers for heavy metal and thrash, but its interaction with single coils like those in a Telecaster may yield less favorable results.

    Source
  • Effective for achieving sludge tones, the Metal Muff can deliver a gritty sound when used in conjunction with a tube amp's clean channel.

    Source
  • It’s mentioned that the Nano Metal Muff can produce compelling metalcore tones, with the EQ and gate significantly enhancing its versatility for this genre.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • It offers a great price-to-performance ratio, often compared to other models like the Boss Heavy Metal and Metal Zone, but with a slightly better tonal quality.

    Source

User experience

  • When used with a Telecaster, rolling off the top boost and cranking the mids can help achieve a chunky, fat riffing sound, especially in the center pickup position.

    Source
  • Owners report that the pedal's build quality may be lacking, as some units have required repairs after failure.

    Source
  • Some owners find the bottom 20% of the volume sweep unusable due to low output, with sudden loudness increases beyond this threshold.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Stacking the Metal Muff with a TS-9 or similar overdrive can enhance the pedal's distortion, especially for metal sounds, by boosting the signal going into the amp.

    Source

Build quality

  • Users report that the knobs are very close together, making adjustments difficult; some have removed knob caps for better accessibility.

Excellent fuzz

Its the sound I've been trying to get for a while. Its knobs allow you to dial in the perfect tone for your project. Lets me beef up my strat really nice. It really excels if your guitar has humbuckers though, its quite loud.
