Description

The Epiphone Coronet is a revival of one of the brand's most iconic solid body electric guitar designs, first introduced in 1959. This modern iteration pays homage to its storied predecessor with a symmetrical double-cutaway mahogany body, offering effortless access to all 22 frets. At its heart is the fiery single Epiphone PRO P-90 Dogear pickup, celebrated for its ability to deliver a wide range of tones—from growling overdrives to shimmering cleans. This pickup, paired with high-quality CTS potentiometers, ensures that every note is articulated with clarity and punch.

The Coronet's neck is crafted from set mahogany with a medium "C" profile, topped by a 12-inch-radius Indian laurel fingerboard. This combination not only feels familiar to seasoned players but also facilitates smooth playability, whether you're thrashing through punk riffs or laying down tight blues licks. A reduced-size Kalamazoo headstock, adorned with the distinctive Epiphone Bikini badge, ties the vintage aesthetic together.

For those who appreciate vintage style with modern reliability, the Coronet also features a rock-solid Lightning Bar wraparound tailpiece, a white butterfly pickguard with a striking foil "E" logo, and ivory button tuning machines. This guitar is not just a musical instrument; it's a bridge between the past and present, capturing the spirit of rock 'n' roll in every strum.

Critic Reviews

Epiphone Coronet, Wilshire, Crestwood Custom review | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

The Epiphone Coronet and its siblings, the Wilshire and Crestwood, offer impressive vintage style and superb tonal variety at an entry-level price. With standout features like the Crestwood's bright mini-humbuckers and the Wilshire's versatile dual pickups, these guitars are both playable and visually striking. They are well-constructed with quality materials, like mahogany bodies and Graph Tech NuBone nuts, ensuring a refined feel. However, they can be headstock-heavy due to strap button placement, and lack options for left-handed players. Overall, this trio is a fantastic value, maintaining Epiphone's reputation for accessible yet quality instruments.

Epiphone Coronet, Wilshire and Crestwood Custom review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Epiphone Coronet, Wilshire, and Crestwood Custom guitars are a hit for vintage enthusiasts and young players alike, offering remarkable value with their distinct retro aesthetics. These models deliver impressive tones from P-90s and mini-humbuckers, making them versatile for various music styles. While the guitars are highly playable and the Crestwood's vibrato is a standout feature, they do have some drawbacks—namely, a slightly unbalanced feel due to strap button placement and the lack of left-handed models. Overall, these guitars are a fantastic blend of style, sound, and affordability, despite minor ergonomic issues.

Good quality/price ratio

I own one of the 2020 Chinese made Epiphone Coronets. The overall quality is very good for the price. I just wish the whole guitar wasn't covered in a polyurethane finish. I love the body shape. It sits really well on me on a strap. The upper fret access is very good and the single p90 again is very good for the money.
