Description

The Genelec M040 active studio monitors strike a perfect balance for project and professional studios. With a 6.5" low end driver and a 1" high end driver, they are capable of effectively reproducing low end frequencies when mixing dance music, as well as less bass-intensive program material such as commercials and acoustic music. Its sound is clear and honest, and mix decisions made on the M040AM can be made with confidence.

For studios with multiple monitor sets, the M040AM is a perfect middle, sandwiched somewhere between an Auratone clone and a monitor set with high power and a subwoofer. They are made from fully recyclable fiber composite material, and feature Genelec's Intelligent Signal Sensing, which powers the unit down after not seeing signal for a while.

Genelec M040 Review

kenrockwell.com

The Genelec M040 Active 2-Way Monitor shines with superb accuracy and a smooth, detailed sound. Praised for its depth and impact, it's a standout choice under $1,000, excelling in both lab measurements and music enjoyment. Despite its impressive performance, the plastic woofer and lack of protection demand careful handling, and its bass response is limited at lower frequencies. Comparatively, the M040 surpasses the Focal CMS 65 and Neumann KH 120 in sound quality, though the Focal offers better deep bass performance. Ideal for professional settings, the M040's build and sound quality make it a worthwhile investment.

The Genelec M040 Active 2-Way Monitor impresses with its eco-friendly design and classic Genelec sound. The Natural Composite Enclosure is both recyclable and sonically inert, while the D-class amplifiers offer efficient power consumption. Tailoring switches allow for sound customization, and the monitors deliver clear, full bass and precise high frequencies. Although some may find the highs slightly bright, the sound remains clean and non-fatiguing. In a competitive market, the M040s stand out as a solid, budget-friendly alternative to the 8000 series, with few compromises. A must-try for eco-conscious audio professionals.

Genelec M040

Genelec's M040 monitors impress with their precise, distortion-free sound and eco-friendly design. The larger drivers and powerful amplification deliver tight, uncompressed bass and excellent stereo imaging, making them ideal for project studios and home setups. Despite the high competition, the M040 stands out with its innovative materials and build quality. While they carry a heftier price tag, the performance justifies the cost, offering a rewarding listening experience across various music genres. Highly recommended for those seeking accuracy and detail in their audio monitoring.
