Clean Boost Perfection
The Keeley Katana is a game-changer for guitarists seeking a high-quality clean boost. This pedal's solid construction and simple yet effective design immediately caught our attention. The single gain knob offers an impressive range of settings, while the pull-out volume knob for additional gain is a clever feature we appreciated.
We were particularly impressed with the Katana's ability to boost volume without altering the core tone. The internal voltage doubling from 9V to 18V provides ample headroom, allowing us to push our amps without unwanted distortion. In our experience, this pedal enhances tone, adding punch and presence while maintaining sharpness and dynamics.
The "Throwback White" finish not only looks great but also offers practical visibility on dark stages. We found the large, easily adjustable knob to be a thoughtful touch, although it is not exactly pedalboard efficient.
Sound-wise, the Katana delivers a clean boost that's both transparent and subtly colored. We noticed a fat, harmonically rich quality that adds depth to the signal without overpowering the original tone. This pedal has become a mainstay on our pedalboards, proving its reliability over time.
The Keeley Katana is ideal for guitarists who want to elevate their tone with precision. It's perfect for those seeking a clean boost with a touch of character. However, players looking for heavy distortion or dramatic tone shaping might find it too subtle for their needs.

Useful
Got this pedal to achieve a "Mayer-ish" tone. And it actually did together with my BOSS FDR-1 and lately with my Roger Linn Adrena Linn III Fender Deluxe Reverb model. And its cool that you can place it between the low gain and high gain drives to achieve a level and gain boost in one chain.
Preferred Settings + Usage:
Clean level at 6 can achieve a clean and tight boost for clean solos.

the BEST clean boost
I've tried countless clean boosts (BBE, EHX, TC, and MANY boutique brands) and this is by far the best one. Out of everything I tried, this one actually does what it says on the tin. Through the front-end of a tube amp (Marshall) it will actually give a perceivable volume and "presence" boost instead of just adding gain or compression. This is about as transparent as it gets too, and honestly most of the hype that surrounded this pedal when it was introduced is absolutely dead-on. This is the one pedal that I never play without.

Clear tone with a touch of drive
This pedal gives a beautiful clear tone, however it could also provide a little drive...

In a piece written for the Tym Guitars website about his Tym Teenage Fanboost pedal, Norman Blake refers to having used a Keeley Katana in the past:
"I mentioned that I had been on the lookout for a boost pedal that would compliment the AC30 that I’ve been playing through forever. In the past I’ve used an MXR micro amp and more recently a Keeley Catana Clean Boost, which are both great one knob (the Keeley also has a switch) pedals."
“I love Keeley pedals! The Katana Boost has been on my board for years and it sounds so good I just leave it on all the time. It adds extra harmonics to the guitar somehow. Really a beautiful sound."
In this post, Pamungkas is integrating his massive pedalboard into a more compact switching system. Here you can see pedals that Pamungkas uses when performing, such as Keeley Katana (next to EHX Qtron pedal)
Which pedals are your standards? I always find if I use more then 6 pedals on my rig something goes wrong, so I try and keep it simple. My main pedals are a T-Rex Mudhoney Distortion, Fulltone Octafuzz II OF-2, A Boss RV-5 Digital Reverb, A Keeley Katana Boost, and a Boss DD-7 Digital Delay
In the video "GITAARMANNEN, DE PODCAST - S02E06: MILO MESKENS" by Ed Struijlaart, at the 32:24 timestamp, Milo Meskens uses and explains the Keeley Katana pedal.
“I always knew Robert Keeley was a bad ass because I had a couple of his modded TS-9’s, but my first “HOLY SHIT” moment with Keeley pedals coincided with the release of the Katana. I plugged in to a Katana and immediately bought two. That was over a decade ago and I can honestly say those two Katana’s have not left my boards since. That was the beginning of my Keeley journey that continues delivering those “HS” moments. I guess you can say “Robert, you had me at Katana!”
In November 2018, Mike Sigl showcased the Keeley Katana Clean Boost Pedal on his Instagram, highlighting its role in his guitar setup.
