The leap into pro level All in Ones

So I've been an owner for the HX Stomp since 2021 and it's by far been one of my favorite pieces of gear I've ever owned. However I was limited by the DSP and what I could do with it. Been playing live with this Emo/Pop-Punk cover band and someone in the band pushed me to trade in my pedals and just get the Helix LT (since the Stadiums were out and these were now super cheap on the used market) I went ahead and made the leap and am super glad I did. no more messing with patch cables, I could configure and arrange my setup exactly how I want, I can tweak all day and find great sounds. I have some feelings about the volume/expression pedal but it still does what I need it to when I need it to. There is a bit of a learning curve to this guy, and truth be told I wouldn't recommend this or any modeler in this realm without having experience with a real amp and pedalboard setup. The more knowledge you have in terms of setup and tone, the more the Helix (and really any other platform) will work with you. My HX Stomp was awesome but it was great getting the extra horsepower with patches I was creating. The effects are world class, the amps sound great (EQ is your friend here) however some of the parameters in certain amps don't react the way you would think, so I would recommend checking out youtube tutorials, they helped me out so much in crafting and getting the tones I want out of my head. Also, IR's are clutch if you want to spend more time playing and less time tweaking. You can get some awesome cabs out of the stock lot and shape them how you want, but for me, I like the ability to drag and drop and IR and use an EQ block to get the sound I want. You end up playing more guitar and less time tweaking in my experience. Good IR's take this already awesome unit and elevates it into the stratosphere in my opinion.

Is it for everyone? No, this is a professional piece of kit and while the UI is intuitive, there's still a learning curve and thankfully this has been out long enough to find some amazing guides online and it helps to know a bit about how amps and effects react to each other to get the most out of it. Good IR's will take this unit over the edge and gigging with it makes life soooooo much easier. This is now thankfully in an attainable price range, a month's worth of plasma donations can get you one of these used and Line 6 is still going to support this thing long term even with the Stadium currently out.

NOTE: There is a known issue with Helix unit's and MIDI. It works great but if too many commands are being sent to the Helix it can stop accepting MIDI changes. A simple reset fixes the issue but this is a known thing. Hasn't effected my gigging experience at all but it's something everyone needs to be aware of.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

DO NOT blast the volume in patches, trust the sound engineer and your own ears. Pushing the master is going to give you some unpleasant sounds in most cases.

Perfect for Most Everything

Hi use the HELIX LT for live, recording and practice. I get great sounding tones with superior amp modeling quality that is 95%~ 98% accurate to my ears. Lines 6 has had professional studio quality effects for decades and the ones included with the HELIX (Floor, Rack, and LT) do not disappoint. If I wasn't such a gear head, I'd sell everything and just us the HELIX, but I still love my analog and digital stomp boxes and tube amplifiers. So, its not because the HELIX can't bring it, it definitely does.

AWESOME!

They totally nailed Rocktones, everything about it is great, and since there is also a VST version of it you are ultra flexible in the studio. The userinterface is awesome. The only downside is that the foot controller for the rack version has no expression pedal and when the mixer has +48V actived the helix will have noise problems. The kemper for example doesn't have that problem.

you can isolate a balanced line level source from universal 48v phantom by using TRS jacks instead of XLRs, XLR jacks have no advantage over tip-ring-sleeve electronically. If it doesn't have TRS connections (which would be weird) you can use an isolation transformer to keep the phantom power off the positive and negative pins.

we checked all connections on our switzland tour. Using the transformer can work but i think it isn't a very elegant solution for touring ... the bad thing is some mixers have no individual 48v switches but only a global one or for half the inputs like on many yamaha mixing desks. So we had had the problem live ... exept me because i played the kemper on that tour :D

Amazing!!!

Hands down the greatest piece of gear I've ever owned. It goes beyond being a multi effects unit/amp modeler. I can be an amp switcher, MIDI controller, recording interface, pre amp, really whatever you need it to be. Amazing quality amp models, TONS of I/O, I can't praise this enough.

Too big for me to use just one sound but 32 blocks (in comparison with HX STOMP, the smaller version) is enough to split a signal for PA, the CAB and the other effects.
