Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Orange AD30TC.

Features and functionality

  • The AD30 lacks an FX loop, which limits pedal integration.

    Source
  • The AD30's two-channel configuration contrasts with the OR30's single channel with a boost, highlighting different use cases and tonal flexibility.

    Source
  • The absence of reverb and effects loop on the AD30 makes it challenging for users who rely on time-based effects and EQ adjustments.

    Source

User experience

  • Some owners have reported issues with rectifier tubes, with a solid-state rectifier adapter being a practical solution.

    Source
  • Owners appreciate the overdrive, noting it doesn't default to heavy metal tones even with maxed gain, maintaining a "cooked tube" sound.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The AD30 is praised for its sound with an SD-1 pedal, though some find it too fizzy without it.

    Source
  • It has been compared to Vox AC30s for sag and fogginess but more closely resembles high-powered 5e3 Tweeds with its tube rectification.

    Source
  • The AD30 is compared to Vox AC30 for classic rock tones but has fewer gain stages, making it less suited for heavy modern sounds than the OR30.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • $750 USD is considered a reasonable price, but it's important to verify the amp's working condition and history due to known rectifier issues.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The AD30TC excels in blues rock but can also lean into classic, hard, alternative, and indie genres, offering vintage sag with modern tight bass.

    Source
  • While the AD30 handles pedals well, some users prefer amps with built-in gain for more versatility without relying on external overdrives.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Greenback speakers are recommended for enhanced sound quality, although stock speakers are satisfactory for many users.

AD30TC Combo Review: If it were lost or stolen I would cry because I... | Orange | Guitar Amplifiers | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

ultimate-guitar.com

The Orange AD30TC Combo is a sonic powerhouse that impresses with its versatile tone, reminiscent of a gritty Vox AC-30, making it perfect for genres from indie rock to doom metal. Its standout features include excellent sound quality and the ability to clean up beautifully, providing a wide range of clean and distorted tones. However, it lacks an effects loop, which might be a downside for those who rely heavily on effects. Priced at $1900, it's a substantial investment but is deemed worth it by enthusiasts for its build quality and tonal capabilities. While its reliability and durability score slightly lower due to limited ownership time, it's still trusted for gigging. Overall, it's a superb choice for those who can embrace its particular sound and features.

This amp is Rock 'n' Roll

I bought this amp in 2010 and if you want to play Blues, Rock'n'Roll or heavy metal this is an amp you should think about. There is one reason why I only give 4/5 and it's the fact that this amp eats tubes(pre-amp) when playing on a high-gain setting constantly. Especially the built-in china-manufactured tubes cannot cope with what this amp does to them when there's a lot of gain in the game. If you use good quality tubes and a moderate gain setting, there's nothing to worry about. Sound, handling and craftmanship are what you expect when you see the name Orange, very good quality.

antonious_healious

Clean, fuck that

This has more growl than an angry wolf.

florian_tennstedt

the clean channel is pretty decent and takes pedals very well, but yeah that crunch is irresistable..
