Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about ORANGE Crush CR35RT Combo Amp.

Features and functionality

  • The Orange Crush 35RT is praised for its straightforward plug-and-play usability, offering consistent quality without needing extensive adjustments.

    Source
  • The amp's cab sim in the headphone jack provides impressive sound quality, suitable for practicing quietly or connecting to a PA system.

    Source
  • The dirty channel's gain can sound flabby and muddy unless volume is cranked above the gain setting, which helps achieve better Orange crunch.

    Source

User experience

  • The amp is noted for its punchy sound, making it a favorite among users who prefer simplicity over built-in effects.

    Source
  • Users report that the dirt channel can be muddier than expected, but the clean channel works exceptionally well with pedals like the Rat clone.

    Source
  • Owners note that dialing the amp's gain up to 75-80% with adjusted EQ can yield great lead tones, requiring more EQ manipulation than other amps.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Orange Crush 35RT is often preferred over the Fender Mustang LT25 for its sound quality, despite the Fender's wider range of built-in effects.

    Source
  • Preferred over Fender ToneMaster by some for its tone, despite being a solid-state amp.

    Source
  • Blackstar and Boss Katana amps are recommended alternatives for those seeking more tailored high-gain sounds, especially with larger speakers than the Orange's 10-inch.

    Source
  • The Joyo ZoMBie 2 amp head is mentioned as a budget-friendly option for those seeking a dual rectifier sound, differing from the Orange's tonal character.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Some users have swapped the original speaker for a Celestion G10 to enhance tonal clarity.

    Source
  • Some users have drilled a hole to connect external cabs, successfully using 1X12 and 2X12 configurations with 8 and 16 ohm speakers.

    Source
  • Using a Tube Screamer or EQ pedal can tighten the Orange's sound, cutting lower frequencies and boosting highs for a more articulate tone.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The amp is reportedly loud enough for small to mid-size gig venues, even when using a basic analog pedalboard.

    Source
  • While some find it underpowered for gigs without micing, others find it sufficient for practice and small gigs, especially when paired with a PA system.

    Source
  • The Orange Crush 35RT is recommended for classic rock tones and lighter distortion but may not suffice for heavier metal genres without pedal assistance.

Does what it needs to do!

Oh my. Where do I even begin? Simply put, the Orange Crush CR35RT absolutely crushes (no pun intended) its competition. It comes equipped with a built in tuner, and a "Clean" and "Dirty" toggle to go between channels. It sounds warm, inviting, and if tweaked right (in my personal experience,) can get a tone similar to that of the album Siamese Dream from The Smashing Pumpkins. I could not ask for a better amp. Cheers!

One Amp, and that's it!

This amp has been used for everything, from practice and rehearsals to small gigs at bars and small avenues! Sounds great like any other Orange amp. Clean channel is great if you're using your setup, but if you're more into just the good ol' guitar+amp, the drive channel is juicy and gnarly as it should. :)

Great affordable amp!

Super affordable and sounds great. Clean channel is a nice pedal platform. Gain channel can do everything from light crunch to serious sludge. Gets really loud and sounds good at low volumes. I’m constantly shopping for fancy expensive tube amps, but I’ve never pulled the trigger because this one really does it all. It’s definitely on the bass-y side as Oranges tend to be, but you can also dial it in to your liking.

Good practice amp

Clean and dirty channels make this a versatile practice amp especially when paired with the Orange FS-1 foot switch.

2 alternative and related items for ORANGE Crush CR35RT Combo Amp, curated by the Equipboard community.

Orange Crush 12

$95.00 - $119.00

similar sound cheaper alternative

The Crush 12 was my first practice amp. It’s about a third of the price of the 35RT, and you can coax some similar sounds from it, but it doesn’t have the same bells and whistles (reverb dial, effects loop, 2 channels) and isn’t as easy to dial in. Still, for the price, it’s a respectable alternative if you’re looking for the Orange amp sound.

Orange Crush 35RT 1 x 10-inch 35-watt Combo Amp

$239.00 - $349.00

mod

This version, to my knowledge, is pretty much just the same amp. Just different looking.
