Peavey Vypyr 30 review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Peavey Vypyr 30 Amp is an impressive contender in the digital modeling amp market. Praised for its wide range of tones and user-friendly interface, it offers excellent value at an affordable price. The amp's digital models provide diverse sound options from classic to modern, catering to various styles. However, to fully utilize its looper feature, a separate Sanpera footswitch is required. While it lacks the projection to compete with loud drummers, it's perfect for quieter settings or practicing at home. Overall, it's a versatile tool for musicians seeking a budget-friendly, feature-rich amp.

The Peavey Vypyr 30 Watt Amp is hailed for its versatility and affordability, making it a solid choice for beginner to intermediate guitarists. Users appreciate its wide array of effects and ability to adapt to various music genres, from metal to jazz. However, its solid-state nature limits sound depth, with some critiques on its reliability over time. The amp is very passable as far as modeling amps go, just don't pay more than a couple hundred dollars.

One of the first amps I owned, very acceptable for beginners or anybody who wants an amp with multiple effects built-in. For a solid state amp at only 30 watts, these get impressively loud if you crank the volume on clean channel or distortion at pretty much any volume. The Blue Marvel speaker is the standard good ol' heavy duty Peavey style (although not as heavy duty as the ones from the 80's). This amp is quite versatile because it has built-in effects AND built-in pre-sets of other Peavey models, one of my favorite dial-ins was to combine the "fuzz" and "pitch-shifter", resulting in a very trippy outer space spound. The clean channels and presets sound good but to be honest they all sounded some-what the same, the gain channels however defenitely have unique sutbleties. The gain channels get pretty intense and loud at a small volume, they can also be adjusted much more easily and produce more range than the clean channels. There was one major issue I had with mine, the L.E.D. lights. The L.E.D. lights are very inconveinient because these are in fact, cheaper budget-friendly models, what I'm saying is that the L.E.D.s are going to stop working like mine stoppped working after a few years. This is a major design flaw and makes the amp borderline worthless if you don't know how to work on an amp or don't have an amplifier technician in your area. Even though the knobs still function perfectly fine, if the L.E.D.s start goin out, the tones and settings will ONLY adjust BASED ON THE STUPID L.E.D.s! This makes the amplifier VERY frustrating to deal with and I didn't bother fixing mine because I found other amps that are WAY more simple and reliable. To be completely honest, there are so many better options out there as opposed to these.

A jaw-dropping amp that delivers fantastic sound and value

I walked into my local shop (run by two twin brothers) looking for a new amp for my birthday and I was dead set on a Vox but one of the owners pointed me to this little 30 Watt and I sat in a room with it after I was shown what it can do and my jaw dropped to the floor. It's absolutely perfect for me and covers every base that I need it for. I can get the sounds in my head out on this thing and they sound fantastic and it's a really good value. Every effect on it is superb and if I lost it I would just be devastated!

When my 2 1/2 stacks are just too much

This really is the best sounding modeling amp I have played through. I have tried them all. This amp along with the floor pedal (sold separately), is awesome. Tons of pre sets and ability to customize with ease. If you can program your car radio, you can set this up with as much ease. Lots of effects, amp sounds, and plenty of power for your club gigs where the big amps are too much. I am looking into the tube version and I believe that will be the end of my search for the perfect combo amp. Stay tuned...

Great amp to just have fun with, and a great practice amp.
