Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Pigtronix Disnortion.

Features and functionality

  • The pedal's fuzz and overdrive circuits are wired in parallel for a double-tracking effect, while the "Octava" is wired in series, offering unique sound manipulation.

    Source
  • The overdrive circuit features a high-cut tone control, allowing full treble when turned clockwise, making it aggressive yet touch-sensitive.

    Source
  • The fuzz offers a 6-way rotary EQ switch with options like mid bump and mid-scooped, catering to diverse tonal preferences including lo-fi and muff-like sounds.

    Source
  • Can operate at 9-18v with more output and headroom at 18v. However, running at 9v yields a fuzz tone closer to typical preferences.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Ideal for achieving tones reminiscent of bands like Queens of the Stone Age and Muse, offering a lot of texture and grind.

    Source
  • Disnortion's fuzz may be more suitable for a raw, "Plume" era Smashing Pumpkins tone rather than the layered op-amp Big Muff sound of "Siamese Dream."

    Source

User experience

  • Despite being discontinued, it's noted for its quality build and satisfying knobs, enhancing tactile interaction.

    Source
  • Disnortion has been described as versatile but with a darker character, even with the tone control at maximum, potentially more suited for bass than guitar.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Disnortion Micro OFM includes a series/parallel switch missing from this model, which offers more stacking options.

    Source
  • The Ibanez 850 Fuzz Mini, described as a Ram's Head variant, offers unique tonal versatility, with a tone knob effective across all positions, though priced slightly higher than budget options.

    Source
  • The Rowin LEF 606 and Donner Stylish Fuzz have identical internals, often making the Donner a more cost-effective choice for a Triangle Muff sound.

    Source
  • Users note that the Eno BMF, a Black Russian Big Muff clone, could be the closest match for achieving Smashing Pumpkins-like tones in a mini pedal format.

Cool (not so little) 3 in one pedal, a distortion/overdrive/fuzz/octave multieffect unit.

This is an upper octave Octavia (think Hendrix), a 6 position fuzz and a generic style overdrive that can run off 9-18 volts (for more headroom) and has a clean direct out along with the processed/distorted one. That comes in handy for feeding stuff you don't want saturated. The OD is kind of a bland TS808 style, the Octavia is cool but I like the one in my Foxfox Octave way way better. The fuzz is again, not all that exciting. You can turn each effect on/off with its own footswitch or blend them all together to created sonic chaos.

I quite like it but it's hard to see how it's THAT much better than other pedals I have

The Fuzz tones are nice. Having an Octava and Drive unit attached are very convenient but I tend to gravitate more toward my GT-500 for those sounds than trying to dial in something with the Pignortion OFO.
