Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Roland Lucina AX-09.

Features and functionality

  • The Roland Lucina AX-09 outputs line level, which is significantly louder than the instrument level output from guitars.

    Source
  • The modulation bar can be configured to provide sustain, and it varies its effect across different patches, offering more than just vibrato or tremolo.

    Source
  • Owners appreciate the 'favorite' option, which allows for easier tone switching during longer performances.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • For portable use, the AX-09 works best with a battery-powered speaker that accepts line level input, rather than a guitar amp.

    Source
  • Playing standing up requires shoulder strap adjustments for comfort, but overall, the keytar is considered manageable for extended playing sessions.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • To connect the AX-09 to a guitar amp, a reamp box like those from Radial Engineering can help manage the line level output effectively.

    Source

Build quality

  • The black version features metal flakes in the paint, offering a unique aesthetic that many users find visually appealing.

    Source
  • The modulation bar uses a compliant mechanism hinge, which can crack over time but is repairable with acetone welding.

    Source

User experience

  • Some users find the keys slightly small, but those accustomed to smaller piano keys adapt well to the Lucina's keyboard size.

    Source
  • One owner has not experienced issues with the modulation bar after two years of secondhand use, suggesting durability for non-gigging musicians.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • The modulation bar part (Part # 3732) is standard across Roland keytars and is easy for users to replace themselves if broken.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Owners of the Ax-Edge wish for a shorter version, indicating a preference for more compact keytar models like those with 37 or 32 keys.

Fun and powerful

I bought this on a whim because it was marked way down at Best Buy! hehe It has a typical but useful Roland sound but of course this beauty calls out to be used live in a band and I am not so not sure why I bought it. It fills a hole in my collection but I don't really use it except to impress nephews and nieces hehe. It would be great fun on stage I bet...and you never know! heheh

A great keyboard offering fantastic built in sounds and cool controlling capabilities too. Good value for such a powerful and portable system.
