  • The Thunderstorm is analog, reminiscent of the Boss BF-2, while the Vortex offers digital versatility, including stereo output and Toneprint functionality for custom effects.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • The Thunderstorm is favored by those seeking an affordable yet reliable flanger without the need for extensive features or digital flexibility.

TC Electronic Thunderstorm Flanger Review (pedal in-hand) - GC

guitarchalk.com

The TC Electronic Thunderstorm Flanger is a budget-friendly gem that offers high-quality tone without unnecessary complexity. While its basic controls might limit flexibility, its all-analog circuit delivers impressive sound for the price. It's ideal for beginners or those with simple tube amps, providing a warm, chorus-like flange that complements clean tones. The lack of a mix knob is a downside, but the straightforward control makes it easy to find pleasing sounds. Overall, it's a fantastic value for those seeking a no-frills flanger with quality and affordability.

Review - TC Electronic Thunderstorm Flanger - Bass Musician Magazine, The Face of Bass

bassmusicianmagazine.com

The TC Electronic Thunderstorm Flanger offers a versatile array of tones from subtle chorus to full-on Hendrix-inspired flange. It's a sturdy, metal-cased pedal perfect for both bass and guitar, equipped with user-friendly controls for customizing rate, depth, manual, and feedback. The all-analog circuitry with true bypass ensures sound integrity, making it a reliable gig companion. While it excels in delivering classic and extreme sounds, its straightforward design may not satisfy users seeking more advanced features. It's a perfect clone of the Boss BF-2 :)

One of the best purchases I've ever made. This pedal have a very good sound and i use It with my band "Un Mundo Enfermo y Triste" along with my Boss SD1 and my Big Muff :)

Versatile flanger

This is a very nice flanger with the top-mounted jacks to save some room. When you take time to learn what each knob does, it's very easy to get almost any kind of modulated sound. I understand it's a clone of BF-2, but I couldn't get the infamous Prince tone out of it. Neverthless, it works as it should and it's built very well.

Surprisingly good for it's price

The build quality and the sound is surprisingly good considering the price of this pedal. It's a proper flanger. The only con is it's size. It takes quite a lot of space in the pedalboard.

dimensiomat

It takes batteries.

dimensiomat

simple but effective budget flanger with trim pots

I like its clarity compared to similar budget models. Like many pedals of that line it has internal trim pots and they help to further nail an interesting sound, I never see that mentioned.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

I keep the two right controls pretty low unchanged. Rate has 3 sweet spots: around 10 rather balanced mid, the next two settings are nearly all the way up or all up for craziness. Manual has 3 sweet spots: all low for an electronic music vibe, 1 o'clock for mid and all up. I combine those. So rate at 10 and manual at 1 gives you a balanced flanger, while rate all up and manual all low gives you a electronics experimental vibe.

Can't make over the top sounds

Bad: can't make over the top sounds

Good: can't make over the top sounds

A

Pretty good

I bought this with a new sound in mind, but I've taken it off my board since I got my chorus.

ghost_java666

I like it.

Does everything I need. I prefer the sounds on the TC Vortex but that one is much more money. If I could only have one I'd choose the Vortex but if I had to buy all a new flanger this would be the one.
