Critic Reviews

Apogee: ONE USB mic & audio interface | Tape Op Magazine | Longform candid interviews with music producers and audio engineers covering mixing, mastering, recording and music production.

tapeop.com

The Apogee ONE USB Audio Interface impressively merges functionality and convenience, akin to the iPhone of recording interfaces. Its all-in-one design, featuring a condenser mic, preamp, instrument input, and converters, is compact and user-friendly. The device excels in capturing clear acoustic and vocal recordings, surpassing the quality of many entry-level mics. While its plastic build might raise durability concerns, it remains elegant and robust. The ONE's preamp, though not matching high-end studio gear, offers commendable sound quality at a fraction of the cost. A downside is the power consumption when using phantom power, which drains laptop batteries quickly. Overall, the ONE stands out as a revolutionary tool for home recording, offering ease of use and elevated demo quality for musicians looking to improve their audio production.

Apogee One

soundonsound.com

The Apogee ONE USB Audio Interface impresses with its compact design, excellent sound quality, and versatile built-in microphone, making it a fantastic choice for mobile musicians. Despite its small size, it delivers Apogee's renowned audio fidelity, with a clear and expansive stereo image. The internal mic stands out, offering surprisingly good quality for quick recordings. However, the short USB cable can be inconvenient, and the reliance on breakout cables might not suit everyone's preferences. The lack of Windows compatibility is a downside, but overall, the ONE is a stellar option for Mac users seeking a portable, high-quality interface.

Article: Hardware Review: Apogee One | Cycling '74

cycling74.com

The Apogee One shines as a versatile, portable USB audio interface with exceptional sound quality, thanks to Apogee's stellar converters and the added bonus of a built-in omnidirectional condenser mic. It integrates seamlessly with Mac OS, enhancing its utility for various recording tasks. However, its lightweight design and overly long USB cable can be cumbersome, and it lacks straightforward stereo recording capabilities. Despite minor noise issues resolved by a cable swap, it remains a highly recommended tool for musicians needing a reliable, multi-functional interface on the go.

Great for beginners!

I bought the Apogee second hand off a friend. As I was a complete newbie to home recording this was easy to get to grips with - Plug it in, install the drivers, record! The sound quality of recorded guitar and vocals is great. I haven't utilised the built in microphone as of yet but i Have no doubt I will for something like acoustic guitar etc. Fully recommend this to anyone who wants to get into home recording.
