Critic Reviews

Apogee: Duet 2-ch FireWire audio interface | Tape Op Magazine | Longform candid interviews with music producers and audio engineers covering mixing, mastering, recording and music production.

tapeop.com

The Apogee Duet FireWire Audio Interface shines brightly within the Apple ecosystem, delivering top-notch sound quality with its impressive preamps and converters. It's a breeze to set up, integrating seamlessly with Logic Pro and other Core Audio software. The Maestro controller software adds flexibility, making it a boon for DIY recordists. While the breakout cable could be sturdier, and digital I/O would be a nice touch, these are minor drawbacks given its price point. For those seeking a budget-friendly, high-quality interface for a scaled-down rig, the Duet is a stellar choice.

The Apogee Duet FireWire Audio Interface impresses with its sleek design and seamless software integration, making it a top choice for Apple users. It offers superb A/D and D/A conversion and is user-friendly, but its exclusivity to Mac users limits its accessibility. Overall, it's a stellar option for those in need of a compact, high-quality audio interface to complement their Apple setup.

I got this interface and the quality of my recordings became better almost overnight. Holy crap. The pre's are very nice and it's such an easy interface to use.

Super portable, and it looks nice too. That's a plus.

2 channels is enough for me, I do have to plug and unplug things in all the time, but that's how I like to work. I recently got an analog mixer with 8 channels, and I still find myself patching and unpatching frequently only using the first few channels.

My mics sound great through it, guitar di sounds great through it, and my keyboards and synths sound great through it.

Could not be happier with this interface. It's a bit outdated, but so isn't all my stuff.

Works better than the New Apogee

I tried to upgrade to the newer Apogee Duet but was having so many issues with it muting on and off for no reason at all. I went back and forth with Apogee but they could not resolve the issue so I had to return it. However this older interface has never failed me. It feels indestructible. I have had it for several years now with absolutely no issues. I also like that it is compatible with the break out cable box. Great audio interface for small home studios and extremely portable.

jasontmays

The one...or the duet.

This is one of the best sounding interfaces I've ever used. The pre's are nice and clear. And I've never had any issues setting it up. It's easy to use and to set up! Overall if you're still using a FireWire mac and looking for a really good inexpensive interface. This is the one...or rather the duet. Pun intended...kinda.

One of the most used interfaces. We still trust on this Apogee Duet but are planning to switch to a UAD Appolo
