  • Clear and detailed sound across various music genres

  • Durable build with replaceable parts available

  • Tight and clear low tones without overshadowing others

  • Wide stereo image and stage structure

  • Good passive noise isolation due to closed-back design

  • Minimal sound leakage at high volumes

  • Useful for both casual listening and professional mixing

  • High-quality materials used in construction

CONS

  • Non-detachable cable limits flexibility and portability

Features and functionality

  • The 80 Ohm version is noted for having slightly less treble harshness and a touch more bass compared to other impedances.

    Source
  • The 32-ohm model comes with black non-fuzzy ear pads, which some find seal better than the velour pads, although overall isolation isn't deemed spectacular.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Excellent soundstage and imaging for closed-back headphones, beneficial for gaming and open-world environments due to elevated treble enhancing spatial audio perception.

    Source

User experience

  • Some users with smaller head sizes report difficulty achieving a proper seal, affecting comfort and noise isolation.

    Source
  • Some users report discomfort with the 80-ohm version due to a tight clamp that can cause headaches, especially if not broken in like studio-used pairs.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The AKG K371 and Rode NTH-100 are mentioned as superior alternatives for closed-back headphones at a similar price point.

    Source
  • Some users prefer Sony MDR-7506 or Audio-Technica M50x headphones for field recording due to better portability and isolation despite different sound profiles.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • One owner modified the 80-ohm cable by shortening it and adding a 3.5mm plug for adaptable length, later considering a tiny-XLR jack for further flexibility.

Critic Reviews

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (80 ohm) Review - Beyer's Finest? – Headphones.com

headphones.com

The Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO-80 headphones offer outstanding build quality and comfort at a reasonable price. Their performance rivals more expensive models, with impressive bass extension and a spacious soundstage for closed-back headphones. However, the V-shaped tuning may not appeal to everyone, and the treble can be slightly sibilant. Despite these minor drawbacks, they remain a top choice for those seeking quality closed-back headphones under $1,000.

positive

Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO Review - RTINGS.com

rtings.com

The Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO-80 headphones impress with their sturdy build and comfort, making them a studio staple. They deliver a neutral sound ideal for professional tasks, with clear mids and solid bass, though the latter can be inconsistent. The treble may be piercing for some, and the closed-back design limits soundstage openness. These headphones struggle with noise isolation, aren't suited for commuting, and lack convenience features like wireless connectivity and a microphone. Overall, they excel in studio settings but falter in portability and versatility.

positive

Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO (80Ω) review - SoundGuys

soundguys.com

The Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO-80 headphones strike a chord with their exceptional sound quality and rugged durability, making them ideal for studio use and long sessions at the computer. Their comfort, especially for those wearing glasses, and the handy swappable ear pads are standout features. However, their long cable and bulky design hamper portability, rendering them less suitable for on-the-go listening. If you're after headphones for commuting, these aren't your best bet. But for studio work, their reliability and sound performance make them a worthy investment.

positive

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm Review | headphonecheck.com

headphonecheck.com

The Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm headphones shine in the studio with their robust construction and rich sound, particularly for recording purposes. Boasting excellent comfort and durability, they are a staple for musicians. However, they lose ground in the control room compared to their 250 Ohm siblings, coming off too bass-heavy for mixing. While they excel in spatial resolution and detail retrieval, their weighty low-end may not suit all genres, particularly classical music. Overall, a strong choice for specific studio tasks.

Brilliant headphones for the Price.

I bought these in my hometown of Bristol, and they BLEW ME AWAY!!!! The response is basically flat. At first, I thought that there was little bass in the headphones but as I used them for about an hour, they started to show their true colors. I use them with the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, and even though I have to whack the volume of the headphones up to full volume, they are still the best headphones I have ever used.

kidsonic

@Kidsonic UPDATE! I don't have to put them up to full. That's just the burn-in time.

Discovering the true potential of studio headphones

I used to think my Sennheiser HD280 were good studio headphones, until a friend showed me these. Made me realize there are studio headphones, and then there are STUDIO headphones! These are the latter.

Very very light and comfortable for extended sessions, excellent bass (full but not overly emphasized). They're pretty huge, might be a little goofy out in public, but I use 'em in the studio late at night :)

robin_buckingham

The Caddillac of Headphones (do we stiff use that reference?)

These are so great you might even be tempted to actually mix using these. There is bit too much low end for that. They do require quite a bit of power to really crank up high though. If you have a device with a little battery, like a cute pink ipod, expect to neither crank it up nor to have your battery last as long. But het sound great, so I don't use them with everyone in the studio. We all say we want a flat response but most of us want that already overly mastered disco curve". This will give you to most forgiving sound. These are not like a pair of Yamaha Ns10, Hs8s, great for someone working with program material or treating yourself to something really nice.

The king!

I just love this headphones, very comfy while giving good depth and high detail.

Comfortable headphones with big bass for long DJ sessions

Have done DJ sets on these for hours and hours w very little fatigue. Super comfortable. Bass sounds BIG and round. They are huge and gray, not exactly the sexiest look (or so my girlfriend has pointed out haha)

doubleshotmaestro

Every studio needs a pair

I can't talk highly enough of these. They're German made. They're from a company with a stellar reputation. They're beyond comfortable. And most importantly, they sound phenomenal. By far, the best reference-level headphones for under $500 if you ask me.

nacho_rettally

Incredible Bass

I have always loved my trusty Sony MDR-7506,which some say are the NS-10M of the headphone world, but when a friend told me about the DT-770PRO, I was absolutely amazed with the depth for what I need, which is detailed midrange and still a great depth on the Low End. I also got the half closed version , but somewhat funny and strange for me since I am used to closed headphone environments.

Excellence

The perfect flat-response closed studio headphone. They are the best on the market in my opinion.

My only complaint is that they make your head hurt after wearing them for over an hour, but it is hard to find a headphone that won't. The ear cushions are incredibly soft, though.
