Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Fender Frontman 15G.

Comparisons

  • The Fender Frontman 15G is preferred over the 10G due to its better sound and high gain distortion, significantly surpassing smaller speakers like those in the Blackstar Fly 3.

    Source
  • A Boss Katana offers better sound and more effects, but at a higher cost compared to the Frontman 15G.

    Source

    Source
  • The gain channel can achieve Gojira-style metal tones when set to around 6 with humbucker pickups.

Fender Frontman 15G Review - Is It Worthy Of Its Price? | GuitarSquid

guitarsquid.com

The Fender Frontman 15G is a solid choice for beginners, offering simplicity and affordability in a compact design. It delivers a clean, natural sound that works well with pedals, making it a versatile practice amp. However, its limitations are clear—it won't replicate the rich tones of tube amps or suit gigging needs. The closed-back design complicates modifications, but for entry-level users, it's a reliable starting point that won't break the bank. Overall, it's a practical option for those just starting their guitar journey, but seasoned players may want more features.

Frontman 15G Review | Fender | Guitar Amplifiers | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

ultimate-guitar.com

The Fender Frontman 15G is a mixed bag for budding guitarists. While it's a budget-friendly option for beginners, providing basic functionality and portability, its sound quality leaves much to be desired. Users report that the distortion can be excessively noisy, and the clean tones often lack depth. It’s not suitable for larger gigs or versatile playing without additional effects. Although it’s praised for reliability and being a decent starting point, many suggest saving up for alternatives like the Roland Cube or Vox Valvetronix for better practice amp experiences.

Yeaaah

Just tweaks some knobs and the sound will be fine. I don't like the distortion channel but you can use it clean and add some pedal. The low end is not too bad, it has more volume than you need and it can be the perfect Frankenstein amp by changing some parts

tylercigan

I like it

It just might be a factor that mine is a couple of years old but it likes to buzz sometimes and I just hit in on the head and it stops..

jimmarchi1

have you propped any doors open with it? they're god for that.... makes a really funny fuzzbux for DI guitar when you want a sound that's both unpleasant and juvenile. You can also get sme great sounds out of a frontman by leaving it turned off and beating it like a drum with a rubber mallet.

tylercigan

I usually use it as a seat, with a good pillow of course.

sometimes an amp just needs a good slap

bryansaxon

Not a fan

I would recommend this amp for a kid if they were just starting out. If tone is important to you, even for a practice amp, then I would stay away.

philip_bernard

Beginner amp

I have had this amp since I was 9 years old. It seems like the quintessential beginner's amp. It has 2 channels, clean and dirty. And it has one set of eq's. 15 watt amp that is perfect for starting out.

jimmarchi1

Thank you for posting such a thorough review of a ubiquitous student amp! 9 years old, eh? You got serious about guitar playing a little younger than I did. Cheers!

nooooooo

Only got because it came with my squire strat, as soon as I had the money i ditched it

metronohm808

Suprisingly nice clean tone...

It can do that fender distortion sound and it sound real nice on clean guitar. I used to run my electronic rig through it with VDP until I got a better amp and headphones.

andrescalamar

My first amp

I got it on the same day I was given my first guitar. Is this a great amp? No. Does it occasionally have an annoying buzz? Yes. Is the distortion rather dumb? Yeah. Does it get the job done when I just want to plug in and play? It sure does. It's just an amp. Nothing more, nothing less.

jimmarchi1

it makes a great fuzz unit run DI and padded down though. Fucking hysterical.

in_vested

usable

it doesn't have reverb, and the jacks get loose easily, but it puts out good sound and has some basic drive function.

andre_gellers

Like a Virgin

If you want to start something, this is something to start with. Very easy to understand and set up, this will rock your bedroom...and that´s about it. Start saving for something bigger.

crashmunchies

Great combo amp

Doesn't sound too bad, and the built-in overdrive doesn't sound horrible either. I used it when I didn't have a pedal and it sounded fine.
