  • Excellent value for the price, especially as a practice amp

  • Limited usefulness in live settings or with pedals

  • Sound can be tinny, affecting audio quality

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Fender Mustang I.

Features and functionality

  • The Mustang I's interface allows for on-amp preset navigation, but lacks options like noise gate adjustments without the discontinued Fuse software.

    Source
  • Holding the "tap" button while turning the treble knob on the Mustang I v2 allows it to function as a midrange control.

    Source
  • Rolling off the gain and disabling mods can enhance the Twin Reverb setting, making it more pleasant by adjusting the master volume, reverb, and treble settings.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • Fuse software, once integral for advanced functions, requires older operating systems like Windows 7 due to reliance on Microsoft's discontinued Silverlight platform.

    Source
  • The discontinued Fender Fuse software is still accessible through third-party sources, allowing users to fine-tune speaker, cabinet, and microphone type settings.

    Source
  • Fender Fuse software can help edit presets that initially come across as exaggerated demos of the amp's features.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Users suggest considering Boss Katana or a simple amp with a multieffect pedal as modern alternatives for improved usability without reliance on outdated software.

    Source
  • Owners note that the Mustang I v2 sounds almost identical to a '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb in a stereo rig, except for the 8" vs. 12" speaker size.

    Source
  • A user noted the Mustang I V2's modelling capabilities can replicate valve amp behavior, but it inherently differs from the sound of tube amps like the Monoprice 15.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Mustang I amps are frequently found in the $75-100 range, making them an attractive budget choice for their sound quality, despite software limitations.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The amp is praised for its versatility, particularly appealing to beginners transitioning from acoustic to electric, offering a broad effects palette to explore.

    Source
  • The Mustang I v2 is praised for sounding significantly better through headphones and offers easy direct recording via USB.

    Source
  • Players seeking a clean tone similar to John Mayer can achieve it by using the '67 Deluxe setting with gain below half and reverb added.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • A clean channel can be accessed by pressing and holding the "tap" button while powering on the amp.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Owners suggest avoiding built-in distortion modeling as it can sound subpar; external pedals, like a fuzz pedal, may provide better results.

I like this amp a lot but lets be real its good for one on one guitar lessons not playing live or with pedals. Thats the only thing I dislike about it but overall good to toy around with.

Has Perfect Effects in this multi effects amp

Perfect for needing a certain sound, especially for a specific era of rock. '65 twin reverb is perfect for use on playing pink floyd's early songs and fleetwood mac's early work, american '90s setting along with the delay/reverb built in is good to use to recreate nirvana's song "come as you go". Would recommend 10/10

Absoluteley incredible

Very versatile, and capable of tones from creamy distortion, to sparkly cleans, shreddy leads, and crunchy blues, without using external effects. Sonic bliss.
