Description

Introducing the Friedman BE-OD Deluxe, an elevated successor to the original BE-OD. This cutting-edge overdrive pedal offers a broad spectrum of tones and superior tonal control, making it a quintessential addition to any musician's toolkit. It boasts dual overdrive channels, each with its own Drive, Tone, and Level controls to enable the creation of two distinctive overdrive tones, easily switchable at a foot's stomp.

Channel 1 offers a variety of medium-gain overdrive tones—ranging from a soft bluesy breakup to a hearty classic rock crunch. Channel 2, on the other hand, generates higher-gain overdrive tones, covering everything from chunky hard rock distortion to a saturated lead tone.

The Friedman BE-OD Deluxe also comes with a dedicated 3-band EQ for each overdrive channel, allowing for precise tonal shaping. This, combined with the Drive and Level knobs, gives you access to a wide array of overdrive tones, from warm and bassy to aggressive and mid-focused.

The pedal's robust aluminum housing and high-quality components are designed to withstand the rigors of live performance. The large, textured knobs ensure a non-slip grip, even in the heat of a performance, while the soft-touch footswitches allow for smooth channel engagement.

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Friedman BE-OD Deluxe.

Features and functionality

  • The Deluxe includes Mids knobs for independent EQ settings on rhythm and lead channels, enhancing tonal versatility compared to the standard BE-OD.

    Source
  • Dime the Tight control to simulate stacking with an overdrive, enhancing chugging capabilities for heavy metal styles.

    Source
  • The Friedman BE-OD Deluxe functions more like an amp than a typical pedal, with the volume knob significantly affecting tone dynamics.

    Source
  • The Deluxe version offers a lower gain channel that pairs well with a Zendrive, providing a unique tonal experience not easily replicated with the standard model.

    Source
  • The presence control is vital for tone shaping, though its small size can be cumbersome for adjustments.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Consider trying affordable clones like Joyo Uzi or Irin to explore the sound before committing to the Deluxe version.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Owners suggest turning the internal gain trim pot down for better control and a more tailored sound.

    Source
  • The internal trim pot can significantly reduce gain on Channel 2, preventing feedback issues when set too high.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Comparable to the Revv G3/G4 pedals, providing thick high gain tones ideal for metal and industrial music.

    Source
  • The Deluxe's size is equivalent to two pedals, which limits stacking capabilities compared to the standard BE-OD.

    Source
  • The standard BE-OD's Tightness control is a dial, offering more flexibility than the Deluxe's three-position switch for tone adjustments.

    Source
  • Outperforms the Strymon Riverside in providing a more authentic, less brittle high gain tone.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Ideal for achieving high gain tones suitable for bands like Rammstein and Static-X, but not as effective for smoother styles like Jimmy Eat World.

    Source
  • The ability to switch between two distinct tones on the Deluxe is ideal for players needing quick transitions, such as from rhythm to lead in live settings.

    Source
  • Pairing with a Marshall Origin amp yields a hot-rodded Marshall tone, ideal for 80s and early 90s thrash metal styles.

    Source
  • Works best as a standalone dirt channel; doesn't combine well with other pedals, especially with high gain amps.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Running the pedal at 18V offers more headroom, while 9V results in a more compressed sound; 12V might be a middle ground.

Friedman BE OD Deluxe and Golden Pearl

guitarinteractivemagazine.com

Friedman BE-OD Deluxe delivers an impressive range of tones, capturing the beloved sound of the BE100 amp in a compact form. With two channels and customizable gain options, it excels in versatility, offering everything from mild overdrive to saturated tones. The interactive EQ and presence controls enhance tonal shaping, making it suitable for modern playing styles. However, while the pedal shines at higher gain settings, lower gain adjustments may not showcase significant tonal shifts. Overall, it’s a robust choice for rock musicians, but those seeking subtlety might find it less accommodating.

Friedman BE-OD Deluxe review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

A roaring beast of a pedal, the Friedman BE-OD Deluxe delivers authentic Brit-style amp distortion across two channels, making it a must-have for high-gain enthusiasts. Its tonal flexibility impresses, with lower gain settings reminiscent of vintage Plexi tones, while the added mid knob enhances mixing capabilities. However, the presence knobs can be a bit fiddly, but most users will likely set them and forget them. If you’re after versatile, amp-like sounds in a compact pedal, this is a solid choice, even if the control layout isn't perfect.

Very good pedal

The Friedman BE-OD Deluxe is an outstanding pedal for those seeking versatile, high-quality overdrive and distortion tones. However, for black metal or other extreme genres, it may require pairing with an additional pedal or an external EQ to achieve a sharper, more aggressive sound.

Found My Sound

Oh how I love this pedal. I've been growing tired of the tones from my amp. I needed something that could give me the sound I've had in my mind. I have another OD pedal that can get close, but it still wasn't right. I've wanted a Friedman amp for a long time, but couldn't afford to spend that kind of money. I figured why not take a shot at this. I figured even if it wasn't quite the real thing, it would be close. I'm so happy I pulled the trigger. The two channels are great since one is slightly less gain, and they both sound amazing. It is a hot-rodded Marshall in a box. It nails the sound I want without having to drop a ton of money.

Turn your single clean channel amp into a 3 channel modern monster!

From Blues Rock all the way into Modern Metal territory, this OD (more like a preamp/OD) gives it all. Its feature set is very impressive for such a small footprint, circuit is all analog (!!!), and internal Gain pots gives you even more control over the gnarliness of this beauty.

The only thing I wish it had was a remote port for channel switching and on/off, so I could keep this beautiful baby away from my goofy feet!

ethan_lawson

Best gain pedal I've used!

This thing is amazing, believe the hype. It turns the clean channel on my Fender Supersonic 22 head into a roaring beast. The green channel is creamy, not harsh at all. The blue is similar but different enough to have a cool rhythm sound. If you're considering this and watching every demo you can on YouTube like I did, trust me, it's worth the price tag!
