it’s a overdrive distortion

Does exactly what you want it to do, sounds great, and can get some really nice light breakup overdrives out of it. Distortion can be a little annoying sometimes but once you get it dialed in it sounds great. (used on “Not So Kino”)

Good OD, not good company

I taped over OCD on mine and replaced it with BLM. Anyway, this is an iconic OD. Also, buy it used, this way, Mike isn't making a penny out of you.

Transparent overdrive

It took me a long time to find out overdrives can be a Tube Screamer like design or a Bluesbraker. I spent a lot of time and money buying Tubescreamer like pedals while the tone I was looking for was that of a Bluesbraker... The OCD is such a Bluesbraker based design.

To me it seems the OCD does not change the basic sound of the guitar so much when you switch it on. It also responds beautifully to dynamics; it cleans up when you play softly and gives a nice overdriven tone when you pick the strings hard.

I use it at low drive settings and that give me classic city blues, but also John Fogerty tones. Love it!

this thing is so popular

many people love this pedal, but it wasn't for me... it sounds pretty good for a hard clipping, dual op-amp distortion, don't get me wrong, but its just okay. The voicing switch made it either anemic in the low end or woolly and un-crunchy, no inbetween. Mind you, this was mainly through Vox and Matchless amps. I liked it a lot more into fenders and other fixed bias amps with negative feedback loops. I actually prefer EHX's copy, the OD glove. I like the voicing better but YMMV. This circuit is cribbed from the discontinued Voodoo Lab Overdrive that sues a special clipping diode configuration to dynamically change the clipping threshold based on your playing dynamics. its an excellent idea but like all Fulltone pedals, it's not Mike Fuller's even though he would lead you to believe he came up with it.

Anyway, I usually recommend this pedal to fender amp players who don't like the SRV tubescreamer sound.

A New 21st Century Classic Overdrive/Distortion

For me, this is a pedal that every serious guitarist should have; it doesn't matter if you play Country, Blues, Rock or Heavy Metal, it's fantastic! Fulltone makes handmade pedals, with high-quality components, True Bypass, and the solidity of a Soviet tank. If you connect a Telecaster it sounds like a Telecaster, if you connect a Les Paul it sounds like a Les Paul, I don't know how to explain it better: it simply delivers a natural, warm, full-bodied saturation, like that of a valve amplifier, but it can venture into the realm of harsher distortion. It's an enormously versatile pedal that can be used as a light overdrive, as a heavier one, or as distortion; it allows you to find the desired tone with great ease. Its dynamic range and sensitivity are unsurpassed. The bomb, a contemporary classic.

Amp-in-a-box with a couple of problems

Sounds and feels not unlike an overdriven tube amp, only slight mid hump and modest bass cut. But too much intermodulation distortion for my taste, which makes the sound a little too busy and unclear. Also, its very high output impedance makes it necessary to place a buffered pedal after it, or pedals further downstream will suffer, especially those with a low input impedance. Used to be my main OD, now retired from my pedalboard after many years of use.

Fantastic sound, amazing quality

I've had this on my board for a few years. It's extremely versatile for anything from fat smooth overdrive, classic rock distortion to fairly high gain lead sound. The HP LP switch definitely is really usable in both settings, HP for a more modern distortion kind of EQ, LP for a slightly more vintage drive tone (to my ears). The fact you can power it with a battery, or then feed it anything from 9 to 18v makes it both convenient and allows you to further customize your sound with voltage. It's been reliable and fully functional for me for years traveling to hundreds of practices and gigs.

In my opinion it doesn't really do the super low drive barely broken up clean OD that well, I have other pedals for that.
