Description

Keeley Compressor Plus is more than a compressor pedal; it's a versatile tone-shaping tool that every guitarist will find indispensable. It delivers the precision of a studio rack-mount compressor, conveniently encapsulated in a pedal format that's as ready for the road as it is for the studio.

At the heart of the Compressor Plus, you'll find Keeley's expertly crafted JFET compressor circuit, providing a natural, blooming sustain that truly stands out. Its release times are perfectly tuned for both single coils and humbuckers, ensuring your guitar retains its articulation and definition, whether you're plucking a Telecaster or shredding a Les Paul.

The pedal's Blend and Tone controls enable unparalleled tone-shaping options, allowing you to blend in your dry signal for a dynamic, full tone, and recover sensitive high harmonics that might otherwise be lost in compression. The result is transparent tone shaping, from a subtle polish to an ambient wash.

The Compressor Plus also simplifies the setup process with its humbucker/single-coil switch, eliminating the guesswork around attack and release times. Whether you're looping, creating ambient soundscapes, or pushing your amp to its limits, the Compressor Plus delivers in spades.

    Source
  • The Single/Humbucker switch on the Keeley Plus simplifies transitions between different guitar types without adjusting attack and release settings.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners note that the blend knob rarely exceeds 10 o'clock when trying to maintain dynamics, especially when playing clean tones.

    Source
  • Owners find the Keeley Plus useful for various instruments beyond guitar, including bass and keyboards, due to its versatile compression capabilities.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • The Keeley Plus can be sensitive to power supply issues, with users noticing potential distortion or noise when using certain power supplies like the One Spot.

Critic Reviews

Keeley Compressor Plus Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Keeley Compressor Plus elevates the classic '70s Ross Compressor design with modern enhancements that bring both versatility and simplicity. Featuring a blend control, tone circuit, and single-coil/humbucker toggle, it offers nuanced adjustments while retaining a straightforward user experience. The blend control is a highlight, allowing players to maintain note attack and sustain, which is often compromised in compression. While the tones are commendable, the compressor's inherent effect can still be a limitation for some. At $129, it's a fantastic deal for a quality U.S.-made pedal, appealing to those who appreciate vintage sounds with added flexibility.

The best

There is a reason you see this on so many boards and on so many sites with tons of 5 star reviews- it’s the best. The sustain knob is a nice feature and the ability to tweak things as needed is great. And best of all, for be anyway, a built in humbucker/single coil switch makes changing guitars while recording a breeze. You can buy cheaper compressor pedals, but why mess around? Spend just a bit more and get the best. You won’t regret it!

Best guitar compressor pedal out there, PERIOD!

I'm a prog power metal guitarist who also does ballad and ambient guitar instrumentals as well. The common problem with clean tones is that without a compressor pedal, they tend to sound weak and inconsistent, making the guitar tone hard to cut through the mix, let alone fight the noise gates that cut out the sustain trails.

Enter the Keeley Compressor Plus. This is a no-nonsense compressor pedal that can do many things great, I got 3 of them and never regretted it! It not only does dynamic clean tones well, but it also does very tight compression as well, making it a viable choice for anyone who's looking to dial in that Tosin Abasi-style slap/thump guitar tone.

What I really love about the Keeley Compressor Plus is the Humbucker/Single Coil selector switch. This is a game-changer as it allows you to adjust the noise floor of the compressor depending on the types of pickup you're using. This way, you can really hone in on the perfect settings that you like to use the most.

Stop wasting your time with other compressor pedals that give you subpar results, get one of these. You won't be disappointed.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

Dynamic Cleans: Sustain just a bit over 12 o'clock, Level 12 o'clock, Blend 11 o'clock, Tone 1 o'clock. Tosin Abasi Slap Guitar Tone: Sustain 9 o'clock, Level 12 o'clock, Blend & Tone maxed out

You have to play it to hear it

Before I bought this pedal I didn't knew how much a good compressor would help me achieve my dream tone. I play mostly rock (punk, hardcore, metal-ish) and the Compressor Plus with its Blend knob really lets me dial in just the right amount of compression.

The Sustain knob starts to shine right around 12 o'clock, and without pushing it much further the sustain you can achieve is impressive without putting too much noise.

The Compressor Plus lets me keep the integrity of my tone and just adds the perfect finishing effect that glues all my other pedals together. A very great pedal.

meerk

keep the sustain knob low!!

Put the sustain knob above about 9 o'clock and this pedal gets so noisy it's unusable--at least with single coils. Took me forever to figure that out because I generally assume that putting everything at noon is a good place to start. I thought the pedal was just noisy in general until I saw some explain how the sustain knob.

Nice boutique Compressor

I didn't know much about how compressor really worked until I watched a bunch of Youtube videos and messed around with my old Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone Compressor. I decided to upgrade to this Keeley one since it was regarded as a good compressor for guitarists who switch between Single-Coil and Humbucker Guitars, which I definitely do. So I ordered one of amazon and wow it was a beauty when I finally hooked it up. Has a signature Keeley Blue LED light and features the standard knobs: Blend, Volume Level, Sustain, and Tone. It also comes with a selector switch right in the middle that toggles between Single Coil and Humbucker. Simple to use. Boosts your signal and compresses dynamics well. I've enjoyed it so far. Can't wait to play it more!

Does what I need it to

It’s okay. I like how it has a singlecoil and a humbucker mode. I usually just leave it on humbucker mode.

Takes your time to a professional level

Compressions are those pedals that you never really believe you need until you use one, this guy is always on for my pedal board and set to the humbucker switch for my Les Paul. Sustain at 5, Blend at 4, Level at 7, and tone between 8 and 9.
